We have been a skyless family for a good ten years and as an early christmas present to each other, we decided to get sky plus and I have to say what a fantastic thing it is. We were able to pause the City match on Friday night just at the start of the second half while we got dinner ready whilst still recording the world cup draw on the other side. Can record a hell of a lot more than a video recorder too. All hail Sky+

Sky now do a box where you pay no fee but get the equivalent of Freeview i.e the free digital channels, trouble is I can't find any information on it. Does anyone know either what it's called or where I can get some information on it?

My mum has this DG, living in a remotish part of North Wales she could only get 3 channels plus s4c and that was it. She can now get loads of channels, I think it cost her £160 (not 100% sure but I think she got a new telly in with it as well) and its now hers. Well worth it! I can ask her how she went about it if you like.

Thanks for that Katassi, I've just found this link

better than freund false trail. Apparantely I can use my current Sky box and just pay £20 for a freeview type card. Might consider it for the close season.

If you change your Sky box you have to register it with Sky (Your current Sky card will only work with your current Sky box)

Unless you sign up specifically for Sky+ you will only get the regular features of your current Sky box IE: The Sky+ features will be disabled

Sky+ features will cost you an extra £10 per month

BUT

if you are subscribing to at least 2 premium channels EG: Sky Sports 1 & Sky Sports 2 the £10 is refunded each month

As a footnote I found Sky+ to be a life changing experience I can't put into words what a difference it makes

The downside is you sometimes expect Sky+ functionality in other aspects of life

EG: You don't quite hear what someone says on the car radio and you think I'll just rewind it Doh!

or you try to rewind the football when you're watching it at someone else's house (who doesn't have Sky+) Doh!

I've had Sky+ since April 04 - I know this cause the hard drive in my Sky+ box failed a few weeks ago and Sky took great pleasure in telling me that I was out of warranty

For £65 (including parts) they could send someone to fix / replace it - Instaed I replaced the hard drive myself (with a 250GB)

Now it's fully functional again and after letting Mrs Deathside loose on the series link I still have 98% free

We've had it for a few years now, pretty much as soon as it was out when no one else had heard of it. Now I've had Sky+, I really couldn't live without it. Even without the sky channels the planner is excellent to have for terrestrial TV, being able to record a couple of things and watch another and have series links so you don't miss youre programmes, its just phenomenal!!

I miss Sky, just have freeview now but the thing I loved about Sky was being able to read ahead on what was coming up in the soaps for the following week - Freeview is pants for that, you only get now and next and even then its nearly always wrong.

Aaaargh! You scoundrels. You're all torturing me. I want Sky(and the + bit) like nothing else on earth. There's no point until I move house as I'll have to pay full whack for re-installing.

Everyone who has it bangs on about how great + is too. I shouldn't feel this way about TV....

...but I want cricket and Dukes of Hazzard and MTV2 dammit!!!!:(

I've only got sky digital at the moment. but my mum bought a new Video recorded last year sometime (I said she should have a DVD recorder at the time but she wanted VCR) but she doesn't know how to use and has never really used it since she bought it so I have told her about Sky+ and she says she'll consider looking into Sky+ after the new year, so I'll hold her to that quote!

-But if we cancel our Sky Digital account and then sign up for Sky+ would that cancel the £99 fee people have to pay, e.t.c

...Mind you offers would have probably changed after the new year anyway!

Hehe, these hardware failures are so well-timed that I suspect they happen when the in-built alarm goes off (at some random time after the end of the warranty period)... :P

impressive :D

sky + is legendary. it's worth the money trust me. it gives you everything you could want from television coverage, and the great thing is that it can only get better.
