I think the article is pretty fair really.

You can make arguments about specific teams and years in terms of why they struggled, but dismissing the point entirely on the basis of one team or season is niave.

I don't understand all the hand wringing over the Burnley comparisons tbh. Last year's championship was shit. If last year's Burnley were in this year's championship, they wouldn't be anywhere near the top four. Tbh, if this year's Burnley were in the Championship they probably wouldn't be in the top four.

We've got a better team in the second tier after relegation than they do now in the Prem.

And even more bullish, I'd happily put money on our coach having a substantially better career overall than theirs. Don't think Kompany is on Enzos level at all.

This.

Simply because we play in a similar way and have a coach who came from the same school of thought, doesnt mean we are the same.

1. We went down with a squad far superior than the one Burnley went down with. Even with the sales, we still retained and continue to retain player who would get into the Burnley side.

2. Mads is a far superior keeper than the GKs Burnley had playing for them. We know better than most how important a good keeper is.

3. Harry Winks is far superior than any player Burnley have in their squad. Winks ability to collect, protect and pass the ball will have an ernomous impact in how we play.

4. If we keep either Wilf or KDH, we are one player away from a PL midfield - hoping we keep both to be honest.

5. Ricardo P, outside of the top 6 is probably the most equipped RB to play the inverted role - massive.

There's some difference between us and Burnley and while we may have errors and frustrations next season, arguably we have far more in the tank to play the "Enzo way" then Burnley had to play the "Vincent way".

They’ll be among the favourites for promotion next season and, if Vincent Kompany can develop a slightly less idealistic streak, it wouldn’t be a huge surprise if his second crack at the Premier League provides rather more successful than his first.

I think the part developing a less idealistic streak will be crucial to City staying in League (assuming Maresca stays). A more direct approach may be necessary and EM must be able to change tactics earlier in a game. I think the last few games show a more pragmatic approach but just one style soon gets too easy for opposition, especially in PL. The "enzo way" to which mickyblueeyes refers will need to have modifications!

Fairly easy to explain this seasons relegated clubs failings.

Sheff Utd- Sold key assets and didn't replace them. Chairman is reluctant to invest and wants to sell the club.

Burnley - Poor recruitment and inexperienced manager. Didn't want to adapt or change mentality or tactics.

Luton - Inexperienced manager, largely championship squad. Not enough quality.

This time next season replace Burnley with us.

Kompany gets away with murder. Burnley drastically underperformed this season.

Spent millions as well, there are no excuses.

They finish bottom by a mile any other season.

I think the issue is way deeper into PL quality and I'm talking strictly regarding the defensive lines of almost all teams currently sitting from 3rd place downwards. The CBs quality is horrendous and managers insisting playing from the back or with very high lines make things even worse.

Just look at the CBs of Man Utd. I would be embarrassed to field a team with these CBs in Football Manager.

Just watch most Liverpool games. Every ball near their box is a guaranteed scoring chance.

Spurs.. Not only their defense is abysmal, they also have a manager who thinks these players can play a high line near the midfield.

If these poor standards are at top 10 upwards imagine how bad things are down the table.

And finally, we've all seen how a Greek team sitting 4th in their league heavily exposed these problems vs Villa where every attack was actually a scoring chance or a goal.

Needless to say, we'll need to fix our defense to even have a chance staying up next season. With the current CBs and playing from the back we'll be slaughtered.
