I think they have been demoralised, beaten and crushed and possibly suffering ptsd, which is why, unlike many, I want our new generation of kids nowhere near this team this year.

Many of this team had question marks over their mentality in the first place but now I think they have accepted our fate and are going through the motions.  Perhaps they start a match fired up but as soon as that first goal against goes in that familiar capitulation follows.

I do get the impression that some players absolve themselves from the clown show.  For instance, I think that Wout would be privately thinking to himself that it's everybody else's fault and Jannick will be thinking we'd be fine if only we had ten more players as good as he is, despite those two being absolutely emblematic of this broken team.

Mindset comes from the top. If the club believe, the players believe. bringing in cooper, failing to bring in top talent and looming ffp sucked any hope and momentum out of us.  It’s hard to build up that belief when everything around you is crumbling. might be an unpopular opinion but the players mentality is not the problem, it’s all about the club and we are letting them off easily by shifting the blame to our players.

I’m so sick of seeing witch-hunts for vestergaard, kristiansen, soumare or winks or insert name , when it’s obviously the elephant in the room, that the way the club has been run into the ground is the issue. But I suppose for some fans it’s easier to believe the players aren’t trying hard enough than just to accept that they never had a hope to begin with

Off the top of my head the issues we have that are causing the players to no give a fvck

  • Insane wages relative to the players we have, most know they're on the best deals they'll ever get so there's not much point in trying hard to get a move elsewhere. Reid and Ajew getting pay rises to join us evidences this perfectly.
  • Seagrave is a fancy Butlins, not much more to add there.
  • The players don't come into the City other than on matchdays. Seems to be accepted that no one lives in the county, let alone the city, and everyone travels in, but that's a culture set from the owner so who blames them. How can you expect players to care about a city that they never visit.
  • Bulletproof DoF that can't shift players on, again, no consequences for any of the on pitch failings at the club. Wout Faes isn't worried when he ****s up because he know Rudkin can't shift him on anyway.
  • Tepid fanbase that clap the players off regardless. Anthony Gordon got literally chased out of Liverpool when Everton were shit, we applauded them getting relegated and no doubt will do so again in a few weeks.
  • But most importantly, an owner that doesn't accept a single shred of responsibility, nothing is his fault, so why should the players try and bail him out? He'll defend them and blame PSR (which he oversaw us breaching) whatever happens on the pitch.

The 'fragile' mentality has been here for years to be fair, we just had quality players to gloss over it.

The League Cup semi final against Villa pre Covid showed that. Proper spineless performance that was against basically a Championship side at the time.
