Goalkeeper*

Aluko - Nelson - Vestergaard - NEW

NEW

James - Skipp

Skipp is the defensive midfielder. He was an absolute ****ing disaster as an 8, he's slowly started to pick up some credibility and put some decent performances in because Cifuentes finally clocked this and had him sit back and just stay and anchor the team.

If you were playing twin 8s with our current squad you'd have James and then either BDCR or Page.

And lets be clear about this, no 11 we put out from our squad should be anything like a relegation risk. Even if the muck people hate are good enough to have us be pushing top half if the actual morale of the squad was alright, if we were being coached sufficiently, if the tactical approach was half decent.

Has Skipp at any point here ever played in a team that has had anybody behind him? He's too lightweight to be your destroyer. You put an Ndidi in that team in that position and you have a different situation. Winks has never been this player either - a good ball recycler, but he isn't good defensively.

Reid isn't good enough. Again, like Skipp, a lightweight player. If he doesn't score a goal, he offers you very little.

We can't keep goals out because we have absolutely no structure in front of the defence. Nelson has been a disappointment, Okoli is extremely hit and miss, Vestergaard isn't great, Faes was a clown. But they all have this problem in common.

The lack of incoming full back is a huge problem. A massive failing and it astounds me anybody could think otherwise. It's a huge bottleneck in our team no matter who you play.

I'm one of the most critical members on this forum AND even I will say we are not getting relegated this season.

Those who think we will be in League 1 are way too reactionary.

All we need is a manager to come in and structure our shape, thats it.

Some FoxesTalk members talk about Playoffs like its winning the Champions League.

The league is rubbish.

The teams are rubbish.

We just need to be marginally better than teams we are already miles superior to on paper.

N'golo Kante is 3'5 and about 4 stone wet through.

Contrary to Ruud's perception, you don't need to look like a rugby league prop to play as a defensive midfielder.

I don't think Skipp is overly lightweight, to be honest, he's not Bayo Akinfenwa but he puts himself about a bit, he holds reads the game fairly well and has cut a few balls out. He's obviously not a brilliant player and I'd love it if we upgraded him but he's perfectly good enough to play as a DM in the Championship.

Kante is a freak example in the way Vardy always used to get brought up when we had a signing that had started slowly.

Whatever the answer is, I know it isn't the Skipp-James combination in a 4-2-3-1 and I think the business we've done has essentially locked us into that - while still retaining at least one of either a finished Ricardo, or hopeless Thomas at full back.

What I do like about the 4 coming in is that they add some height and size to the team.  Whether that actually translates to being able to compete physically remains to be seen as 2 are youngsters and 2 have struggled with fitness recently. But I hope this is the first step towards a team that doesn’t get bullied out of games.

It seems to me there was no attempt to improve the squad this window, it was just one in, one out for players who have left or who are injured for a while: -

Lascalles for Faes

Aribo for Soumare

Mukasa for James

Richards for Ramsey

Our management clearly think the squad is good enough!
