I thought he looked ok on the ball, he was just so slow. As I said, I only saw the second half so maybe he was just tired. On the same basis, I thought O'Hora and Coulibaly were the most disappointing. O'Hora was far too casually and slow with the ball and Coulibaly just didn't seem to be able to pass the ball at all.

I thought Neale and Lawrence looked comfortable. Hutchinson seemed to be trying to do too much and the only thing that came off for him was the shot against the post. As in previous games it was the academy players, Aluko, Alves and Braybrooke, who impressed and the 'experienced professionals' who were a disappointment. I only saw the second half and was not impressed by Doyle, but as has been mentioned on the Doyle thread, he has not had many games, including in pre-season.

I think Lundstram is a DM option against stronger teams, but Oxford are struggling more than us. If anything we should go for a more attacking line up. Page, Braybrooke and Doyle in midfield, Alves, Howell and Riis ahead of them. Same back 5 as at Plymouth.

Agreed, but I also think that the second half was slightly less suicidal, so maybe Martin has accepted that McCarthy can’t play that way.

The only thing that worries me is that we have signed players who should have had offers at a higher level, so do those clubs know something we don’t or are we paying a lot more than they would? Or do they just believe the club and manager are an amazing opportunity? 😃

How many of the first team would you have in the second? For me the answer is 2 definite, Stolarcyk and James, 1 probable, Fatawu.

This is the bit that makes no sense to me. He has done well in two previous loans at this level, so why didn’t Brighton try him in the Championship? If he is in the last year of his contract, did he push this aiming for a permanent move?

How much damage would that do to the U21s? You want to coach there attitude as much as anything, having unwanted players from the first team squad dumped in with them would not help that.

I often think that was the beginning of the fall. Rodger’s said he needed to refresh the squad, implying they weren’t good enough then he found out there was no money, so he threw a strop.

Is he a free agent? Otherwise we can’t sign him.

Isn’t that what we have had in the previous 3 or 4 windows. Seems a lot better than Skipp, Ayew, Edouard, etc.

Totally agree with your first sentence, particularly impressive given some were saying they expected Plymouth to do well this season. I am interested in seeing how Kamari and Lundstram fit in. Maybe Page, Braybrooke and Kamari against weaker opposition and Lundstram at DM with Page and Braybrooke further forward against stronger opposition.

Not sure Brighton would have allowed us to loan him without some assurances on playing time.

I think it’s unfair to judge a window on how they bed in, no one can know that at the time of the transfer. You can only acquire players who have the right attitude and potential, in the right position with the right skills at the right price. We seem to have done most of that. How they go from here is unknown.

… until Oxford put 4 past us on Saturday. 🙁 It’s the Leicester way.

I think it means that we have decent options for Martin’s early second half substitutions instead of Burns and Cullen. We also have options for Page and Braybrooke for when they tire.

Last night’s back 4 have played 2 games and got 2 clean sheets. Martin won’t change it yet.
