His personality and sense of humour have returned, which we can still notice despite him being unable to speak. He is just starting to reap the rewards of the intensive physio he's been receiving. He is able to stand up by himself and can walk a short distance, although not in the manner his physio would like him to! He still has no movement in his right arm, however, and he still has a long way to go with his speech. He's mastered writing with his left hand, and a computer has just arrived at his bedside to help with his communicating. Thanks very much for asking, Lisa

muzzysgal Posted 16 February 2006 Author Posted 16 February 2006 Yesterday Steve moved to the YDU (Young Disabled Unit) at the General. This is a specialised rehabilitation unit. He is able to walk about now, but it requires alot of effort. His speech is extremely limited and he still has no use of his right arm and hand. He's been down to see the last couple of home games in his wheelchair, courtesy of Peter Jones. He'll get there, but it'll be a very long, hard slog.

However, he still can't walk properly, can't talk nor use his right arm. Keep your eyes peeled for details about the forthcoming fundraiser to be held at the stadium next month.

Here's hoping that Steve's recovery continues at a good rate and that happier times are round the corner. If you would like to contact me privately, feel free to do so. The reason I suggest this is that a friend and I have set up and run a charitable trust which donates money to what we feel are worthy causes on an annual basis. In the past it has been local/national cancer charities - still, might be worth looking in to. We have an AGM coming up mid-April so if you think you might be interested in sorting something out... just get in touch. Finally, all the best to Steve and all those who care for him.

I initially posted on there about what had happened and asked for messages of support to be posted so that I could print them off and show them to him in hospital, in the hope that they would buck him up a bit. However, people who read 'The Fox' - either the message board or the fanzine - also posted about Steve's situation on here and the TB message board too, as some people knew him from reffing the Trust's 5-a-side tournament last year. Hope that makes things a bit clearer for you?!

He was board member of the Trust from day one and it was only just prior to his stroke that he announced he would step down at our elections. A number of Trust board members will be helping the organisers of the quiz on the night
Ultra Posted 19 April 2006 Posted 19 April 2006 Well done to all those who took part in and organised the quiz, as well as the auction and raffle that followed. Over 300 folk turned up, and between us we raised over £5000. Steve and his wife were both there and were deeply touched by the volume of support. I hope our efforts have gone some way towards making their lives easier and helping his recovery.
