Suffolk_fox Posted 1 March 2006 Posted 1 March 2006 Well? What new rule would you introduce? Or what rule would you scrap? How would you improve the Beautiful Game we love so much? I just mentioned on a different thread that diving and appealing for a penalty where it is proved by video evidence that there is no contact should be punished by a 3 match ban, with points deducted for persistently offending teams..... Discuss..

Discuss.. I'd like to see the emphasis on yellow/red cards with the aim of sending players off changed, There should be a real intent to keep all 22 players on the pitch for 90 minutes. The number of cards issued is in serious danger of becoming more important than the number of goals scored. Failing that any bugger that waves an imaginary card should get their wish by being given their own yellow card.

My thought is this: In bad but not really bad situations, instead of sending him off, the referee should make the manager sub him.

I would like to see no yellow or red cards, basis on Hockey - sin bin for five or say twenty mins with team reduced in men - or in extreme measures expulsion from the league totally.
l444ry Posted 1 March 2006 Posted 1 March 2006 Bring back the old rule that if you are in an offside position then you are offside. Period. With the standard of referees and linesmen today anything that simplifies matters has to be for the better.

I wouldn't like to see sin bins come into the game. I think it could be, yellow card - normal 2 yellows - sub him for another 3 yellows - OFF Red (very bad) - OFF
Shum Posted 1 March 2006 Posted 1 March 2006 I would change the offside rule back to how it was. If you're off, you are off!

Phube Posted 1 March 2006 Posted 1 March 2006 My biggest bug-bear is 'shielding' the ball out of play for a goal kick, even when there is still 20 yards of pitch left... This is obstruction surely!!! There should be a rule where if a defending player is shielding the ball out, they should HAVE to touch/play the ball therefore giving away a throw-in or corner. If they don't touch the ball then it must be obstruction as they are not 'playing' the ball!
Leicester City Posted 1 March 2006 Posted 1 March 2006 We must have been typing at the same time That's what i thought! Great minds.....
Random Burglar Posted 1 March 2006 Posted 1 March 2006 I wouldn't like to see sin bins come into the game. I think it could be, yellow card - normal 2 yellows - sub him for another 3 yellows - OFF Red (very bad) - OFF Hes off the pitch after 2, so why would 3 be required?

I mean, it IS obstruction!
Leicester City Posted 1 March 2006 Posted 1 March 2006 Hes off the pitch after 2, so why would 3 be required? You've found the flaw in my great plan! But i think it could work well, forget the 3 card thing then!

This is usually the case but refs just let everyone get away with it and if the attacker does try to get the ball the ref instantly gives a free kick.
The Don Posted 1 March 2006 Posted 1 March 2006 I think they should change the rule so that subs can warm up any side of the pitch that they like!
IDEA OR IKEA Posted 1 March 2006 Posted 1 March 2006 You've found the flaw in my great plan! But i think it could work well, forget the 3 card thing then! No not at all - its still great:- At two yellows the management have the choice to sub him or leave him on - if they choise the latter they cannot sub him later in the game.
Phube Posted 1 March 2006 Posted 1 March 2006 Surely with all this talk of 3 yellows, it would be better to introduce another colour!! I.e a green/blue card for a minor offence, yellow for an enforced sub, red for straight off. Therefore: 2 blue/greens = 1 yellow = they HAVE to be subbed... which if you've used all your subs is tough luck! (Edit - Or the manager has the chioice to take a 10 minute sin-bin or the enforced sub.... Hmmm I like this idea!!)
shen Posted 1 March 2006 Posted 1 March 2006 Absolutely agree. If you're offside, you're offside, none of this in play rubbish thing. But what about controversial 'goals' that have been ruled offside because a player up by the corner flag is standing offside yet didn't affect play one bit?

Either use a SIMPLE card system or don't use it. Or use a sin bin system like in Hockey, but surely not both. I don't like the idea of giving teams options on how to manage a misdemeanor caused by a player on the pitch.

Sounds like the ref's gonna need the equivalent of a deck of cards to ref a match with that set-up
l444ry Posted 1 March 2006 Posted 1 March 2006 But what about controversial 'goals' that have been ruled offside because a player up by the corner flag is standing offside yet didn't affect play one bit? Why ask your defence to push up if not to catch an opponent offside? If an opponent chooses to be lazy then he deserves to be caught offside. Anyway, there have been far more dubious goals with this new interpretation.

True, but let's imagine a corner situation: If the player taking the corner is inside the playing field and the team scores, it should be ruled offside right? I do agree that more dubious have been scored with the current rules, but a hybrid of the old and the new ones would please me most to be honest, and if forced, I'd choose the old one over the new one as well.
simtacular Posted 1 March 2006 Posted 1 March 2006 they should abolish the rule where the player has to go off the pitch after he has received treatment and then to come back on seconds later
