Anyone ever been really impressed with a band live but just found them bland on recording?

Or how about impressed with the recorded work but found them to be a complete turn off live?

A few stand out for me.

Goldfrapp - Loved them live. Hadn't heard much of their stuff by then, only knew a few. Got all the albums now. The albums are alright... but live was something else... can take or leave the recordings.

Bluetones - The albums never did much for me, saw them supporting The Beautiful South (who were brilliant) and they actually put on a top show. Lots of energy and some cracking tunes.

Bob Dylan - Just wanted to comment how different it was seeing him live. As many of you will know, much of his stuff was done AGES ago, although some brilliant stuff has been done in the last ten years. Now though he cannot play guitar (arthritis I think) and so he sings whilst doing some limited keyboarding... Still brilliant live. Also completely changes the arrangements of his songs live. Legend.

Reef - Just expected so much more from these guys live. Some of their early stuff was really good.. saw them about 2 or 3 years ago and all the energy and vitality about them was gone. Pretty lame. Dissappointing.

I'd like to see Goldfrapp sometime. I've liked all three albums and Ms Goldfrapp is a hotty, in an unconventional way. I can dig quirky when it's backed up by outrageous talent.

Ash - love the records, saw them live....probably on an off night, as they were pish. I still love the records though.

Back To The Planet were great live and poor in the studio. Rhythmites too.

Beautiful People were great in the studio and utter crap live.

Most manufactured bands/artists seem ok recorded but ABSOLUTLY shocking live.

Rhythmites were are reggae band signed to the blurrg label. They released two albums and joint eps with other bands such as Culture Shock. They used to play a lot of free festivals which makes sence of your cider reference. They also used to play the Charlotte every other month usually on a Sunday night.

They split when the singer was done for GBH on his Missus. Shame because they were excellent live.

Hope that helps Deathside

Aha - I think that's making sense - I went to see Culture Shock quite a few times in the late 80s and I think that'll be where I know The Rhythmites from

PS - I think I was quite píssed up when I made my earlier posts in this thread - The sentiments remain unchanged though
