Ash Posted 4 November 2004 Posted 4 November 2004 Scowcroft won so much more in the air than Dublin. He also looked a lot more capable of holding up the ball up and bringing other's in to play. Showed some nice touches too, evading a few challenges with some nice foot work. 33073 Scowcroft for England then 33075 Well, we do lack a bit of aerial ability upfront. I'm sure Owen and Rooney would thrive off those exquisite flick ons.... 33078 Can you imagine it , Scowcroft against the likes of Nesta,Lucio,Cannavaro,Carlos etc etc

I personally think he wants to play, but maybe not for LCFC
Ric Flair Posted 4 November 2004 Posted 4 November 2004 The Dutch lad can score goals in the Scottish Prem, but he could find it difficult hre after all he is 30 i think! So much for bringing youngsters in 32223 29 I think, 5 or 6 years younger than Dublin though. I'm sure Levein isn't totally against the odd older player, but they'll have to be quality. Where as under Adams talent didn't come in to it, just age. 32234 Paul Dickov, Ben Thatcher, Les Ferdinand, Marcus Bent, Stephan Freund, Danny Tiatto, David Connolly, Peter Canero, Gareth Williams...to name a few! No quality there? Crazy talk! Please lets not needlessly slag off a manager who didn't do a bad job while he was here. Sure it didn't go right in the end, and he has left a bit of a fix up job in terms of how we defend...but in his first season he was a revelation...don't bastardize that...don't tell me you weren't chanting his name when he came out on the pitch after we sealed promotion. Glad he has gone...for him and us, but I won't bury the guy! 33014 The more I look at what Adams did for us the more I realise he was actually quite shit! If you look at the state of our squad now I don't like it. At first I thought the squad was capable of walking this league, but it just breathes a lack of desire, passion and vibrancy. Mainly because it's full of journeymen who are coasting in their last season as a footballer for a championship team and that's shocking. Now I haven't really got a problem with signing older players if it works, but if Adams is going to sign these players then atleast make sure they ****in put some effort in to earn their money. Dublin, Blake, Dabizas and Wilcox have hardly shown enough commitment or talent this season to prove that they were a shrewd buy. Yes, Micky did sign some good players last season, What I was saying about talent doesn't come in to it was abit tongue in cheek but you can see where i'm coming from. I honestly think Adams would sacrafice potential for experience any day of the week, he was obviously influenced by an old skool manager in Dave Bassett. All I can say is that Micky Adams might well of got us promoted and kept this club together during a difficult time, which I am eternally grateful for. But what I won't accept is that his work in the first year should guarantee him a job for life or to be prevented from criticism. He has left us in a bad state, he should of gone after the La Manga affair. His desire left as soon as that happened and he was just plodding along picking up his wages just like many of the players he signed for us. Just listening to Levein, he is in a different league to Adams. I know just because you talk a good game doesn't mean your anygood but Levein's record proves he's a good manager and the way he talks it shows what an intelligent and honest man he is. There's no ego there, there's no nothing. Just an honest down to earth guy who know's what he wants and will stop at nothing to get it. Where as Micky, you just couldn't tell what his philosophy was. He was so wrapped up in himself Micky Adams that I think he forgot who he was. I hope Adams gets another job, but it will take a lot of convincing for me to think Adams is capable of being a successful manager. He'll be on the scrapheap with all the other mediocre managers in football. Craig Levein's Blue & White Army.

But i read today his reasons for not playing them was because he was resting them and they are still in his plans, so thats a bit of a dissapointment if thats the truth and he aint just covering it up

The end of the season will see the oldens cleared out.
Hullfox Posted 4 November 2004 Posted 4 November 2004 I think that CL was talking a bit politically myself. Neither Makin, Dublin or Gemmill played because they were shite at Cardiff. Elliott may well have been rested because he played well and is in fairness short of match fitness.

Steven Posted 4 November 2004 Posted 4 November 2004 Having just seen Hearts lose 1 - 0 to Schalke, I cannot remember seeing de Vries win a single header. There are other Hearts players I would be interested in, but I would say the main reason why they lost to Schalke was they (Hearts) lacked a little quality. <_<

Can he not get in Hearts team now Leveins left

He looked old, ponderous and was arguing with the ref. Sound familiar.

CL was at game, Andy Webster played a blinder against last years Bundesleague T S and 2 other top quality internationals in a 3 man front line so theres a young quality centre back for you ! not that I hope he goes ! oh yes , its hard to win games against the No 2 team in Germany with 10 men v 14( including dodgy Russian ref and linesmen) nothing to do with our quality, we were worth a draw.

CL is just the man to get you there
Steven Posted 5 November 2004 Posted 5 November 2004 Having been to a couple of European nights with City, home and away, they are very special. I hope we can get ourselves into that position with CL. Good luck to Hearts for the rest of the season.
Oadlad Posted 5 November 2004 Posted 5 November 2004 De Vries is basically the poor mans version of Scowcroft then? 33061 No need to wait for transfer windows which don't apply to us...
