Jon the Hat Posted 1 June 2006 Posted 1 June 2006 I just feel someone in a high power position needs come down on people who are sucking the blood out of this country! Just the other day I went into a Pharmacy to buy a prescription, while in the queue I noticed I was the only white person there waiting to be served? Once I approached the counter the Pharmacist asked me whether I pay for my prescriptions and my answer was 'yes' but while I waited every single other foreign b*rstard got away without paying! What's all that about? People who pay taxes pay for immigrants to suck every single available resource from this country while they sit in house that was given to them and do Fook all and still moan about it! Now, why should ordinary law abiding citizens be made to feel like a foreigner in their own country? And why should people be afraid to go to certain areas because of fear of being done over for being a white person? I agree that no-one should have to live in fear of anyone, but that is a question of law enforcement (which is crap) not of immigration. Our economy benefits from immigration, while the major flaw leading to the irritations you mention is that people who are awaiting a decision on an assylum or residency application are unable to work and support themselves. This encourages illegal emplyment which means no money into the tax system etc. Really very stupid, especially when the jobs they would most likely do are ones which legal immigrants from inside the EU are doing, and which us "natives" don't want.
Jon the Hat Posted 1 June 2006 Posted 1 June 2006 Just the aforementioned mishandling of the economy (she wasn't on top of the money issue), she went way overboard the labour laws (does Britain even have labour laws anymore?), she buggered up Northern Ireland and Argentina something awful - on these important humanitarian fundamentals she failed miserably. Actually we are a competitive economy attracting the largest Foreign Direct Investment in Europe largely as a result of the flexible labour force which came about under Maggie. She broke the stranglehold of the unions in time to save us from losing every last bit of our manufacturing and mining industries. There isn't much left, but the unions would have killed it all.
Jon the Hat Posted 1 June 2006 Posted 1 June 2006 I'm sure the people who lost their homes and jobs would agree whole heartedly with you on that! The biggest recession in recent history...... They would have done anyway, you can't support an uncompetitive industry forever. You can only delay the pain at enormous expense to everyone.
Lemon Harpic Posted 1 June 2006 Posted 1 June 2006 Then we can start on the scroungers who pay nothing towards their keep! I agree. The rich have been taking and taking from this country for too long now. It's time they gave something back.
Daggers Posted 1 June 2006 Author Posted 1 June 2006 Not entirely true. The amount of council tax wasted on civil servants sitting on their arse all day and being used to fund their pensions would run a small country! Council's up and down the country need a huge shake-up, not until then will our services be up to the standard we expect. Then we can start on the scroungers who pay nothing towards their keep! What are the alternatives? You could opt to privatise everything but then you will encounter the problems currently being experienced by school meal provisions ~ the private sector likes a profit, and working for the good of the community isn't in its primary interests. Now we face a situation where some schools have no one submitting a tender as they can't provide healthy meals at a profit and at a price the public can afford. Also, once you start to privatise you increase the opportunity for people to opt out of society by not paying for certain services ~ and surely the benefits of living in our society should not come for free? Surely we should all share the costs in order to share the benefits? For example, some people may not go swimming ... but a healthy population increases the national wealth and ensures the running of more services more efficiently than if they were ill. The level of salaries being paid in the public sector simply aren't sufficient to encourage a more professional attitude. You also have to overcome the latent intransigence of large organisations, inertia in all large public bodies is vast in relation to change. To 'get tough' on inefficient personel leaves you with the dilema...what do you do to ensure delivery of services if they resign/get sacked? I have no surefire solution to improving the services offered by councils but if you look around the world what we get for what we pay isn't bad...I've lived in places where rubbish doesn't ever move from the place it is left, bags of human waste festering in noon suns. I think, for all the faults, the public services we get offer pretty decent value for money on balance ~ you may not like all of the services you are getting but that is what the ballot box is for ~ or you could always stand yourself? These 'scroungers' who pay nothing towards their keep ... we are including the Royal Family in that right?

Yeh we do forget how bad public services are in other countries but lets be honest we pay a lot of bloody money towards our services and the countries where the service is poor pay next to nothing if anything at all. I believe we should have services at least on a par with Germany and Spain but unfortunately we are way behind. .............and to be fair to the royals, although I agree they should pay their way their civil list payments have been fixed since 1990 at £8 million for 20 years and who knows on the next review they may agree to waive it.

True, but do you know how much you would suffer in the pocket if you worked in Germany? They have outstanding systems, like some of the Scandanavian countries, due to the huge levels of tax paid by workers. Plus, Germany has an unemployment benefit system that would blow your mind...if you reckon scroungers have it easy here it is but nothing compared to the giggle they are on in Germany. I reckon you get what you pay for, and France and Germany pay for their hospitals. They pay and then some. If we would like the comparative levels of service then we could...but it would cost us and I don't think that the majority of the tax payers here would go for it. We've become a 'me first' culture, a 'Big Brother' society where the most important thing is what you own in order to define who you are. With regards Chaz and Liz, I have cooled on hating the monarchy to just finding the concept of paying them a bit daft. The richest woman in the world and yet we still lob cash at her. I reckon she can keep the castles, the swans and the corgis, start paying some tax and that's that. So long Liz and thanks for the fish as it were, but...as they say avarus animus nullo satiatur lucro!
Ultra Posted 1 June 2006 Posted 1 June 2006 I agree. The rich have been taking and taking from this country for too long now. It's time they gave something back. Hear hear. We could start by making sure they paid their taxes instead of hiding their money in offshore accounts..
Thracian Posted 1 June 2006 Posted 1 June 2006 The Attorney General's ruling not count then? Too close to the Establishment for my liking. But it sounds as if you are convinced about the legality so I'm all ears.

lcfcalan Posted 1 June 2006 Posted 1 June 2006 1) I hope you get your bike back intact. 2) M Thatcher was a great leader of her party , but the 'vegetables' ( re: spitting image) were actually so gullible they followed her and subsequently created a 'me me me me ' society that devestated so many ordinairy working people . 3) Immigration is essential to this country's sustained growth. We are as I undertand it , one of the top 5 wealthiest nations, with around a 50 million population. To sustain the position we are in , given the projected birthrate, and the decline in population, we need to raise immigration over the next ten years or so to just keep pace with the decline in population just to 'stand still'. 4) We dont need racism, we can do without the BNP, but most of all , we CAN DO with the language we all agree on. The Language spoken world wide , That is FOOTBALL !!!! Have a great world cup all , whoever you may support . 5) Scroungers, are just that, Scroungers. Not black , white yellow or asian or eastern european, just scroungers. 6) Forest and Derby fans actually ought to be sent to 'rehab for football sense' clinics, just to show there is always an exception to the rule.

Superb ~ what a concise way to sum up the entire thread

My only argument is that I think she went overboard with 'flexibility.' It's all about finding that balance, and if you put too much power in the hands of the employer and the industry, of course it's going to create a competitive economy, because the economy is sucking the fruits of labour from John and Jane Citizen. The economy should have to respect human dignity. There are some cases where privatisation leads to a better outcome (e.g. banks), and where public-private partnerships achieve a better final product (e.g. road infrastructure), but labour my dear comrades should not be up for sale in any aspect.
