Daggers Posted 20 June 2006 Posted 20 June 2006 He should never have been taken to the tourno in the first place! Do we get to call in a sub?
Libertine Posted 20 June 2006 Posted 20 June 2006 He should never have been taken to the tourno in the first place!Do we get to call in a sub? No. Deadline was June 9th.
Guest Gist Posted 20 June 2006 Posted 20 June 2006 I know people were saying about us only having Crouch and Walcott as cover but with Rooney now not looking too sharp and obviously Owen's injury which I don't think looks like he will be coming back to this WC we really are in the shit.

Scary, isn't it. We took two crooked forwards, one who has never played and one who hardly looks comfortable on the ball... ...and I'm the positive one on the forum! The fact that Svennis doesn't want to play Walcott now he has seen him train is frightening... At least we avoid Germany and Argentina!

You can see it being like Custer's Last Stand with Peter Crouch the only striker left standing before long.
Guest Gist Posted 20 June 2006 Posted 20 June 2006 I'm still confident just as long as we get Gerrard and Lampard pushing up and scoring, I think tonight Sven should have started Carrick see how he did in a big game to bring him in then drop him is just a waste, which then could have been used to bring in Defoe or Bent, but that is a different matter.
Daggers Posted 20 June 2006 Author Posted 20 June 2006 I'm still confident... I may be there after a decent breakfast
dandannieldanok Posted 20 June 2006 Posted 20 June 2006 We have Crouchy what are you worrying about, he is on fire in my eyes and with Rooney finding fitness we have not got a massive problem. The likes of Gerrard, Lampard and J Cole have the capabilities of playing in very advanced positions anyway.

I don't want to seem like I'm getting on his back for nothing, but I think his goal was a bit fortunate. He never looks convincing in the air, for me. Crouch has worked hard but he just doesn't work in the rigid system that Sven insists on playing. Him playing bastardises and compomises our shape and system to the point that the midfield is completely bypassed to get the ball to an unsupported Crouch ASAP.
Ultra Posted 20 June 2006 Posted 20 June 2006 Looks like we'll have to go with 4-5-1 for the rest of the tournament. But as long as Rooney can give us a good hour for the next couple of games, we MAY be able to get by. Sven now has his excuse for failure ready-made..

Yeah, but he should have took 5 'real' striking options!

Spot on, it's as if we forget that we have a midfield and should just play a formation of 9-1 that should stop us conceding sloppy goals too.
Thracian Posted 20 June 2006 Posted 20 June 2006 It is genuinely difficult to be sure of the right system with the hotch potch of players available and especially as safety first seems so upmost in the mind of management and fans alike. But I cannot see us surviving against good teams the way things are. Carragher, Lampard and Beckham are all playing badly. There seems no settled rhythm to the side. But I would go with something like: Robinson; Beckham, Terry, Ferdinand, Cole Lennon, Gerrard, Hargraves or Carrick, Cole; Crouch, Rooney. I would have as much mobility in defence, twin attackers on each flank and a genuine partner to our must-be-marked strikers. Of course Beckham is a gamble but Carragher looks pedestrian and uninspiring. I don't believe that we will prevent the good sides scoring against us even with 4-5-1 and we won't score enough with that system to win the games. I appreciate that people pay only lip service to an attacking philosophy but that's the only way I can see us having a chance of winning the trophy.
Daggers Posted 20 June 2006 Author Posted 20 June 2006 The only way we can win now is to play it as a battling Championship side in an FA Cup tie. We have to do a Greece
Daggers Posted 20 June 2006 Author Posted 20 June 2006 Owen battled back to play at the World Cup but looked less than fully fit and was substituted in both of England's opening games, without scoring. Now it appears his World Cup is over - which also leaves England alarmingly short of strikers. Manwell Pablo Posted 20 June 2006 Posted 20 June 2006 Pretty gutted at the moment. I am rather annoyed at that Swedish t**t. My drunken state of mind cant help going back to his squad selection and the lack of strikers.. and the addition of Jenas.....
