Personally hate that reasoning, so many nightmare kits have come from it (Fosse Gold, the Thunderbirds kit, Man Utd's Newton Heath yellow and green tie-up abomination etc etc etc).

Fosse Gold had nothing to do with an old kit, just a very bad idea. I actually liked the Thunderbirds kit and the Man Utd green & yellow kit was certainly iconic.
