Guest Posted 25 July 2006 Posted 25 July 2006 what a brilliant atmosphere and great celebrations last night. top night.i have a solution. if we play the first game at trent bridge that will finish at like 1.05 wont it starting at 10:30.. then catch train from notts to leicester watch ipswich game till 4:55 ish.. then taxi to train station and train back to notts for the final which was late at night if i can remember from the 2 i have been 2. then we see leicestershire win the 20twenty cup <_< Pity finals day is when the footy season starts again. We'll be at home to Ipswich, and I have said if we make it and are the first semi, we could go to both, but I have been told not to entertain such silly ideas.
The People's Hero Posted 25 July 2006 Posted 25 July 2006 How long before he gets a call-up for England? Depends how long it is before he gets a move to one of the home counties, middlesex or yorkshire/lancs I suppose.
Nationwider Posted 25 July 2006 Posted 25 July 2006 Depends how long it is before he gets a move to one of the home counties, middlesex or yorkshire/lancs I suppose. Harsh, but true. Now Plunkett, Jones, Anderson and Flintoff look like being out for the rest of the summer, and with Sajid Mahmood being a bit iffy, and Jon Lewis a bit slow and old and not-Ashes-material, I can see Broad pushing for a call before the summer's out. He can bat too (he got a fifty against Derby last week) which will count in his favour as England's tail is a bit long at the moment.
Ultra Posted 25 July 2006 Posted 25 July 2006 Depends how long it is before he gets a move to one of the home counties, middlesex or yorkshire/lancs I suppose. That didn't stop Harmison, Plunkett or Collingwood..

I was thinking more in terms of the one-day side to begin with, but with Test bowlers currently dropping like flies, who knows?...
Jonbluefox9 Posted 25 July 2006 Posted 25 July 2006 Broad hit 54 not out for England A a couple of weeks back and he was batting at 11. Not a bad batsman at all when he wants to be.
The People's Hero Posted 25 July 2006 Posted 25 July 2006 That didn't stop Harmison, Plunkett or Collingwood.. I don't think that's worth of a " " when you've just come up with THREE names. May I remind you that Plunkett and Collingwood have only been England 'regulars' recently and that even then, we were arguably not full strength. Could I also remind you that an England XI is just that (XI = Eleven). That's eleven. Not three. To take that little further 3/11 is just over a quarter. That's just more than a quarter then of the England side that doesn't come from the aforementioned counties. In addition, I should point out (just in case you want to take your groundless sniping any further) that I have had some fairly interesting conversations with a number of people connected with a number of different county cricket teams. I won't name the individuals or the sides concerned but suffice to say that I have it on good authority that the less 'fashionable' sides are up against it when attempting to keep their better players as it is a widely held belief WITHIN the game at the TOP levels that those playing for less fashionable sides are less likely to play for England. In addition, the three players that you mentioned suggest that the selectors have a lot of respect for the Durham coaching staff. Or are being bought some nice lunches by those with influence up there.

Jonbluefox9 Posted 25 July 2006 Posted 25 July 2006 Don't forget Monty!! Former Loughborough University student and I helped him get one of his coaching certificates!! That's my claim to fame.
Ultra Posted 25 July 2006 Posted 25 July 2006 Don't forget Monty!! Indeed. The Home Counties bias may have been in operation 20 years ago, but is less apparent now. Having said that, I wonder who the England wicketkeeper would be if Geraint Jones was at Notts and Chris Read at Kent..
Loake Posted 25 July 2006 Posted 25 July 2006 not that I can remember. I've been saved the decision of whether to go ipswich or trent bridge, by the fact that I cannot get to the cricket, which is good in a way, but I wanted to go!

Guest Gist Posted 25 July 2006 Posted 25 July 2006 Who is the team Nottinghamshire play then I don't know all the teams?
Nationwider Posted 25 July 2006 Posted 25 July 2006 Surrey. Their top order is the absolute dog's underpants as far as 20-20 is concerned.
Bert Posted 25 July 2006 Posted 25 July 2006 Their top order is the absolute dog's underpants as far as 20-20 is concerned. Yup, hence the favourite tag.
Guest Posted 26 July 2006 Posted 26 July 2006 Apparently one source has Notts and Essex as joint favourites.
The People's Hero Posted 26 July 2006 Posted 26 July 2006 One of Notts/Leics will win this. Surrey aren't as geared up for it and in my opinion, lack a bit of bottle. As for Essex, I don't think they're anything special. Watch it be a cracker of a Surrey v Essex final now!
Ultra Posted 26 July 2006 Posted 26 July 2006 Notts are quite a force on their own pitch. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see them turn Surrey over.
The People's Hero Posted 26 July 2006 Posted 26 July 2006 Agreed, I think they will turn Surrey over.
