Katy Posted 5 July 2006 Posted 5 July 2006 1 - I'll support Tiatto on the pitch but it doesn't mean I can't criticise the decision to re-sign him. 2 - Why the hell should we be trying to persuade people to come to games? They can make up their own minds. 3 - If Hamill, Hammond or Sylla had been re-signed if their contracts had been up this summer, I'd have said pretty much the same thing. As it happens, I think Tiatto was worse than all of that lot last season. I agree 100% with all that buddy
Thracian Posted 5 July 2006 Posted 5 July 2006 I don't think anyone I watched in City colours was worse than Sylla and Hamill but I've missed a bit in recent seasons, thankfully.

At least Hamill and Sylla were on the winning side at least once (Watford away sticks out where they were both pretty good as I recall, Sylla particularly).

Manwell Pablo Posted 5 July 2006 Posted 5 July 2006 At least Hamill and Sylla were on the winning side at least once (Watford away sticks out where they were both pretty good as I recall, Sylla particularly). He was impressive Sheff United Home as well, and we won.
Ric Flair Posted 5 July 2006 Posted 5 July 2006 Sylla wasn't as bad as Tiatto last season, he had half a dozen games where he played relatively well. Sylla's season was very much like Williams, he showed his talent in patches but then also went missing in games and showed no desire to get involved. Hamill on the other hand tried his best at all times but is just blatantly not good enough, his dithering on the ball against Spurs in the cup was an embarassment and i'm sure that was the final nail in the coffin for him. I would however be very pleased should he turn out to be a good player because he's still only 21 and a left winger. But the reality is he's crap.

You have noticed he has a squad number and there has been a reluctance to bring in a new left sided player? A lot of work is being done with Hamill and you'll be suprised just how much he features in the early weeks.
harry Posted 5 July 2006 Posted 5 July 2006 I agree, at the moment Hammill's rubbish. That doesn't mean to say he won't improve with a bit of confidence. His main problem wasn't being noticeably bad, just that he wasn't really noticeable at all. The sort of player who turns out, doesn't impose himself on the game and ends up being totally ineffective. That could improve if he stays. He may also have been quite unsettled by the move and the subsequent regime change. From the Little era right up to the Adams era having anybody under 26 in the squad was something of a novelty. For years we said 'Stef Oakes is only 23 / 24' or 'Benjamin has potential, he's 24' etc. We wouldn't have dreamt of slating anyone of Hammill's age group. So he could still get a lot better.

That's very interesting, how come Kelly didn't even include him once on the bench during the last 16 games but is ready to play him again this season? Hamill's main weakness is his character, he looks like he's got zero confidence. He's timid and scared. His main attributes were his set pieces, he's one of very few at our club that can cross the ball accurately. He isn't overly quick though and I can't see how Kelly can improve him.

Ric Flair Posted 5 July 2006 Posted 5 July 2006 Work in progress Are you confident he'll ever be any good? Can't see it myself, was he ever any good at Hearts? Although Kisnorbo was never any good at Hearts either and he's good enough for us now. He's not mentally tough enough. O'Grady managed to come on leaps and bounds and he was mentally weak, but he's now physically strong aswell. Hamill just doesn't look capable of being competitive enough.

When i was watching the warm up at Reading away at Christmas. Hamill was given 10 shots at the goal with Hume. So they both had 10 shots each. Hume hit the target about 9 times, but i remember clearly and thinking at the time that Hamill didnt hit the target from 18 yards once. Now in a warm up there is no pressure to perform compared to a match situation and if he couldnt do it in a warm up, then what hope is there for him to do it in a match. Personally i think he lacks character and ability and should be allowed to leave the club. But if he is given a chance in the first team, I will give him a chance to prove us all wrong.
