Thracian Posted 6 July 2006 Posted 6 July 2006 Fifa talk about getting rid of the cheats. After seeing more of Portugal's cynical efforts to con the ref against France the players concerned should all receive long term bans and the country barred from the next two World Cups. What happened wasn't down to an isolated incident but a calculated, concerted and utterly cynical attempt to cheat. Just as Germany has emerged with credit from the World Cup, Portugal has sunk to an all-time low and their team hs brought nothing but disgrace on their country.

Katy Posted 6 July 2006 Posted 6 July 2006 Im glad 'Big Phil' turned us down, I don't want England to be associated with that cheating get. Openly encouraging your players to dive etc is NOT in my opinion how the game should be played. Him and Portugal can get fecked!

Exactly my sentiments.

Thracian Posted 6 July 2006 Posted 6 July 2006 quick question for u thrach , do u belive any rules could be brought in to stem the flow of cheating ? 1 match ban for any Proven dive after consulting tv afterwards? Something needs to be done and it is no use FIFA pontificating about stamping down on the problem and then largely ignoring it. The problem to solve of course, is being sure that cheating has occured and making sure that the cheats team does not benefit even to the point of winning the match as a result. Hence my instinct is against retrospective punishment. I certainly don't see why video replay evidence cannot be relayed to the referee within minutes, perhaps seconds of an incident and decision effected or adjusted accordingly, including the time left in the game. Yes we need new rules but all sensible options should be considered first before being hasty about any changes which might later backfire. And, whatever happens the punishment(s) should be hard enough to effectively end the practise. For instance: conned penalty. Any goal cancelled, culprit sent off, one month ban. Appropriate added time. Deliberate unseen provocation: player sent off, one month ban. Appropriate added time. Outfield cheating/time wasting (to be defined). First offence a booking and free kick to opposition say 30 yards from goal. Appropriate added time. The above are ideas for debate rather than long-thought-out solutions but cheating needs to be outlawed.
