Team for Cov

Recommended Posts

That's my point, if Tiatto is injured why put Hughes on the left!!??? No-sense whatso ever... (to me anyways!!)

4-4-2 with Porter wide left, or 4-3-1-2

I think that the second formation would be a bit too attacking for Kelly's liking though, he prefers the team to do enough to go forward, but make sure there are a lot of men behind the ball just incase we're having a shocker going forward

Then again you don't rate last seasons players player and fans player of the season, so theres something wrong there wouldn't you agree!

I wouldn't have any fears about changing the team - this is a totally different football match.

From playing a distinctly lightweight Ipswich at home we are going to be involved in a rugged, competitive battle where time and space will be at a premium.

Hammond is one bone of contention. But he is fast, he's strong and he'll track back. We scored three, had one disallowed and might have had six.. No change.

Tiatto is almost certainly injured and will have to be replaced. Answer: Levi? I think it is a bit early for him to start but don't see a sensible alternative. Someone has to thread passes and take corners/free kicks and if Tiatto's out that leaves Williams or Porter. No choice in my mind.

Nils is one I cannot make my mind up about. He gives the ball away far too much for my liking and we could do without the unnecessary pressure that creates.

Can he be persuaded to pass short? I don't know. Not seen any signs since he's been at Leicester. I would play Sheehan because he'll also support attacks and is well used to linking up with Levi, Kisnorbo and Hammond.

Anyway, with all that in mind:

Henderson;

Kenton, McCarthy, Kisnorbo, Sheehan;

Low, Johnson, Hughes, Porter,

Hammond, Fryatt.

Subs: Logan, Nils, Wesolowski, Hume, O'Grady.

There are 4-3-3 alternatives but Kelly sticks to 4-4-2 and Porter or Low join attacks anyway.

Balance remains pretty well 50-50 between defence and attack, everyone's in a natural position, Hammond provides a bit of pace and additional harrying. Apart from the injury to Tiatto the only change is designed to enable us to keep the ball better and link defence/attack better.

Henderson;

Kenton, McCarthy, Kisnorbo, Nissa;

Low, Johnson, Williams, Hughes,

Hammond, Fryatt.

Subs: Logan, Porter, Wesolowski, Hume, Stearman.

he might even have McCauley on the bench instead of Porter.

Assuming Tiatto's not fit

Chris Birchall would have a field day down that left hand side of ours. Although he's not expolosively quick, he's strong and loves a battler. Something Sheehan and Porter might get exposed at, even if they are both not shy of a challenge themselves.

It's a tricky one, i'd be tempted to play Hume wide left to graft with Birchall. We'd also have another attacker to utilise when we attack.

That idea crossed my mind but I wondered who would take free-kicks and corners and thought Porter was the better bet, especially being such a good passer of the ball as well.

But I have no doubts my team won't be the one chosen. We'll go all resilient and negative again.

See my post in the other Cov thread. I'd be very surprised if we could get anything at the Ricoh without literally fighting for it.

I would seriously consider not playing Weso on friday. Just think it will be a vicious game and the last thing we want is the scum from up the road finishing his career. They'd love it if they did, I couldn't bare it.

Agree completely. Another week or two out won't hurt.

I also agree about the need for battlers. But someone has to create if we're going to win and Levi might be small but I certainly don't see him as the Kop Out Kid. He's survived among hard cases before.

depending on how the game was going I would give Wesolowski another 15-10 minutes against Cov. Then start him against Macclesfield with the intention of him playing around 60 minutes. He could then be in contention for a starting place against Southend

Whenhever ive seen sheehan play for us, he's always looked up for a fight, I think he would give as good as he got. He'd have birchall in his pocket, and he could score a free kick for us ala bale :P

I know people are wondering why play Hughes on the left, but I feel that playing Porter or Tiatto on the left as well as having Low on the right is a bit risky playing away, because our 2 CM's will get over run, so having Hughes on the left means he can tuck in and help the midfield if Low, like most wingers sherks his defensive responsibilities. Plus Hughes scored some important goals cutting in from the left last season such as against QPR and Millwall.

He doesn't seem to be anywhere near the first team at the minute. Nisse or Kenton should be able to do a job on Birchall he's the least of our problems. I'd be more concearned about the right and the Mcsheffrey.

I would agree as he played against mansfield in the closed doors game as well.

Here is my team.

Hendo

Kenton Paddy Kisnorbo Skills

J-Low Hughes Johnson Tiatto if fit if not Porter

Fryatt Elvis

Humey, Williams, Weso, Stearman and O'Grady

This would be mine;

-------------------Henderson-----------------

Kenton----Paddy Mac----Kisnorbo----Nissa

Low-------Hughes--------Williams-----Tiatto (if fit, if not Porter)

-----------Fryatt--------Hammond------------

Subs

- Stearman

- Hume

- Weso

- Johnson

- Logan

- Hammond gains a starting place for the second time in a row after a good display against Ipswich.

- Keep Hume hungry!

- Williams in for Johnson (tough call really, either 2 out of those 3 I would be more or less happy with).

Lock him in a cupboard for a week, that'll do it.

I cannot imagine any way Porter would come out second best to Hughes wide on the left.

It's utter mythology. And based on what?

It's like this continual favouring of Nils. I've nothing against Nils whatsoever, he is quite a capable defender, but everyone conveniently ignores the fact that he ruins his good work by needlessly giving the ball away.

Hughes has never been a winger. Porter was a specialist winger until they found he was even better in midfield. He is one of the few with an engine to match Hughes and his support play all over the pitch is arguably the best in the club.

Neither are great tacklers so you are left with final passing ability and Porter is different class in that department from everything that I've seen.

Hughes is far too lightweight to play in the middle, I'd prefer Williams or Weso in there. But we'll go with the same team, only change will probably be up front and Kelly better make it. Elvis' pace may be useful against Matt Heath :whistle:, but I'd rather him be brought on if needed in the last 10/20 minutes where

i agree that hughes is to lightwight but williams is worse. he should never be allowed to play centre mid!! i would rather see the return of junior lewis. i am not a fan of williams. not one bit. he thinks he is good but he is shite. get weso back!

What you forget Thracian is that most people who pick their team on here pick it on the basis of what they think Kelly will pick not what they would pick.

Can't say I've ever analysed that one.

But I'd just like the selection process to be based on logic instead of diplmacy, wages paid or player seniority.

I'd play

Henderson

McCarthy Kenton Kisnorbo

Stearman, Williams, Weso, Hughes, Sheehan

Hume Fryatt

Sadly that's hardly too likely. :P

My in-game plan B would be to go 3-4-3

Henderson

McCarthy, Kenton, Kisnorbo

Low, Weso, Williams, Hughes

O'Grady, Fryatt, Hume

Again, a terribly unlikely lineup. :P

And it probably wouldn't work because I don't have a clue about tactics. :D

I think we might see a no-change policy this week, assuming Tiatto is fit.

He must be playing pretty awful then. But the McSheffery problem's been solved!
