Will Kelly change away day approach?

Recommended Posts

Okay, City have collected three points from a dramatic change of tactics which has given every supporter a lift.

So does anyone believe he will persevere with that approach on his travels or will he revert to his normal away day approach of defending in numbers and hoping to pinch something somewhere?.

From comments already made there seems no doubt what the dourists would do. They would sacrifice creativity for all the battlers we've got and be "happy" with a draw.

It was an approach that yielded just five wins last season from 23 games and less than a point a game overall.

Is there any point? Is that way ever going to get us into the top six? If we attack and win one in three that would be a better return.

Indeed is it not time to start believing in our own ability to win any game in this division providing we play the type of team that makes it possible.

A team that, when it wins the ball, has the ability to retain it and has enough players of different skills to unlock any defence and which offers the forwards as much support as the defence?

Or are we so set in our ways that we are just blind to any alternatives?.

After the Luton and Burnley games and now the Ipswitch match I'd be amazed if there where any big changes, Hammond might be subbed for Hume and if Tiatto is still a doubt then Porter might start... it could also be possible that Weso will get an extended run-out, but I'd expect him to come on as a sub for Johnson at some stage.

So, in short, i just dont see how/why there would be an reversion to a very defensive posture against Coventry, for good or ill, I think it'll be very like it was on Saturday.

I don't think there should be any change of tactics from home games to away games. I can understand in the premiership smaller teams visiting the 'big four' if they played more negative tactics to try and battle away a point. However nobody in the championship is too good and to much of a threat for the other teams to be scared of them. Stats tell us this in the fact that after just 3 games each only one team has manged a 100% record. We should play with width and pace to give us outlets after we will have had to soak up inevitable pressure in most away fixtures. Also for the benefit of us, the loyal and paying fans, we should not have to put up with 4-5-1 or 5-4-1. Although this occassionally pays off, I do not want to suffer away days like Wolves 0-0 last season. That was my birthday treat aswell.:mad:

I hope you wrote to CL about that Birthday Treat!

What did you do to upset him?

TBH, i don't really care if we win with our only shot on goal or if we play badly just as long as we win because a win is a win. If we win and win well, that's just a satisfaction bonus.

Exactly. People would moan if we lost but played well correct? Yet people will and have moaned that we play shit but have won, they can't win. Obviously to play well and win is great but i'd rather play shit and win.

I don't mind people critisising but at the moment, the club, the players, the staff, the fans, e.t.c can't do a thing right is some peoples eyes.

like bert said if we win with our only shot on goal i wont mind either, infact i dreamt i was watching the game on t.v and andy johnson went down in the box and it was given a peno infront of the city fans, i then woke up and thought i can go downstairs and watch Fryatt take the peno now. id like that, a 1-0 win with a dodgy peno decision to us.

I too would rather win playing badly than lose playing well but if you don't aspire to playing well, and select a team that allows you the chance to play well, then gates will keep falling.

Why? Because non fanatical fans (for want of a better expression), while being pleased with the result, won't actually have any compelling reason to go and watch.

Matches like our 0-0 bore draw at Wolves off the back of a totally negative 4-5-1 system are the worst advertisement a club in our position can have.

Sadly it wasn't the only occasion we went away with a completely negative attitude. I'd understand it more if there were any logic to it, any tangible benefits, but there aren't.

Is Danny Tiatto recovered.. from the injury, clearly his return from being crap may only have been a one half wonder...

They're are awaiting a report from the wood treatment specialist to see if the woodworm in his right peg has been eliminated. :P

Didnt think he actually HAD one, I just thought he held himself up with an elaborate pulley/shoulder system when he was kicking the ball

There are times when we'd take a 1-0 win over a 4-3 defeat, whatever the Sky-viewing public might think. Tonight is one of them.

But Cov's defence is vulnerable and we should have a go at them. Too many teams are intimidated by their stadium (as they were in the first year of the Way) and sit back.

We should be OK as long as Williams isn't recalled.
