Watched Walter Mitty last night. Thought the trailer was dull and unfunny, so assumed they were saving it for the film. I was bitterly disappointed. I don't think I rooted for Walter once, nor cared whether he achieved his goal(s). Sure Iceland looked pretty, but the rest of the film was Walter Shitty.

Alf has probably hit on the main reason why so many people claim to like DBC - so they can show the world how non-homophobic and gosh darn ahead of the moral curve they are. See also: 12 Years a Slave. "Hey look at me everybody, I'm such a good person that I think slavery is bad. I'll prove it by liking this movie that shows that slavery is bad. Woo. Go me."

Up there with movies on american miltary successses as subject matter that guarantees the most transparent fake positive reviews ever.

MattP also likes DBC - Doing Butthole Coke.

Eh?!?

I gave an honest review of the film - not the best film I've ever seen, but very good indeed. Certainly no "Once upon a time in America", "Une Partie de Campagne", "Once upon a time in the west", "La grande illusion", "The man who shot Liberty Valance", "The unbearable lightness of being", "The Dead", "My darling Clementine", "The lives of others" or "Taxi Driver", but very good.

As it happens, we considered both "12 years a slave" and "Wolf of Wall Street" but thought both might be a bit predictable. "Dallas Buyers' Club" was very good, I think. Why not watch it yourself and post your own review?

You don't know me from Adam, so how do you justify your comments? I've no interest at all in being "right-on". If it helps, I've known some horrible black people and deeply unpleasant gay people in the past (as well as good and indifferent, of course).

If my "anyone who's not a prude or a homophobe" comment comes across as smug to anyone reasonable, then I apologise for expressing myself poorly. I'm just aware that this is an open forum, used by people of all views and ages. No apology to you, though, Moose, as you come across to me as a sly, shit-stirring bigot, even if you keep a cap on it most of the time.

You're like Jekyll and Hyde, Moose. A lot of the time, you post interesting, well-argued stuff (even if I still disagree with a lot of it), then suddenly you turn into some sort of paranoid, slavering nutcase. Get a grip! lol

I have watched it and shared my thoughts earlier in the thread. I said it was like a boring episode of banged up aabroad. It was a really boring film. Nothing personal it's just I feel your comment about it not being a film for homophobes is the main reason why it got so many positive reviews. I'm not disputing that you enjoyed it, obviously you did, I'm talking more generally. People say they like that kind of film because they like what liking the film says about them more than they actually liked the film

Moosey's Problem Page.

Dear Uncle Moose,

I am in a quandary. I saw a really good film which featured a black gay disabled anti- nuclear climate change activist and his struggle to increase awareness and tolerance of multi-coloured, unisex, wind powered wheelchairs. Thing is, as daft as it sounds, the acting, plot and artistic content were magnificent. I want to recommend it to my friends but am worried that they'll just laugh at me and think that I'm trying to be "right on" and will make fun of me.

My advice is that you watch a film called Prisoners which I believe is out now on dvd. It has got more holes in it than a block of swiss cheese but if you found watching a bloke setting up a crap business selling vitamins riveting then you I reckon the genuine suspense of Prisoners will literally make you explode. And then you won't have to worry about what your mates mary and joe think of you

In that case you should definitely keep it quiet. There's no lefty credibility available in liking a movie that shows successful wind powered wheelchairs. You've got to find a movie which portrays the disableds being treated really badly. Then you can safely tell everyone how much you like it because that will show how morally advanced you are.

Thanks for that. Your thoughtful response got me thinking too. Perhaps some people like a film because ....... they liked the film whilst the prejudices of others will render them liable to slag it off regardless of its quality.

And your point is?

You never treated a woman like the guys do in that? I have plenty of times. That sort of woman was invented to be a toy for men, sometimes we need to let off steam and they are the perfect way to do it.

No I've never treated a woman like that.

You sound like you're a Jimmy saville man and not from the enlightened 21st century.

Woman as toys for men!

Why not learn how to control your steam or blow it in your hand?

surprised that you don't have more respect for humanity.

Just watched Taxi Driver- unsure what to make of it!

Brilliant film!

The King's Speech- An alright film but I'm not sure what all the fuss was about.

I got about 45 minutes in and had to turn it off. Nearly bored me to death. I also don't see what all the fuss was about.

I thought it was brilliant, if you are unsure it probably means you are stable and sane, I loved it as I've often felt like Travis Bickle, I just wouldn't have the balls to be him.

This is so strange, bought it ages ago and haven't got around to watching it, people either seem to love it or absolutely hate it.

Hahaha. I know what you meant. I can emphasise why Travis become disillusioned but not to the point where I would felt like going on a rampage and talking to myself in the mirror.

I am also definitely not stupid to take a date to a porno!

Prisoners - last night - and I have a few questions

Donnie Darko wore the same shirt nearly the entire film. I never really got the impression he could be arsed with the investigation (bit lazy and didn't really put the hours in) so is he one of those people that only has 1 shirt or did he like the shirt so much he bought 3 or 4 of them in the sale, and rotates them? The only trouble with this is people at work will still think you only have 1 shirt.

Your attempts at proving yourself to be a modern woman are getting ridiculous.
