lookwhaticando Posted 2 September 2006 Posted 2 September 2006 Not a subject I can talk to you about with any authority! Glad to hear it Thrac!
Bert Posted 2 September 2006 Posted 2 September 2006 That's outrageous. Surely we didn't allow him to piss off just to get married when we had a game on? Micky Adams did, because we had Nathan Blake and Dion Dublin to cover
lookwhaticando Posted 2 September 2006 Posted 2 September 2006 Micky Adams did, because we had Nathan Blake and Dion Dublin to cover That's alright then
Wils Posted 2 September 2006 Posted 2 September 2006 That's alright then Blake and Dublin, great cover micky. :pinch:
Stevosevic Posted 2 September 2006 Posted 2 September 2006 I think Blake scored in that game + cresswell got a hat-trick :pinch:
Bert Posted 2 September 2006 Posted 2 September 2006 Yep. We went 1-0 down, then drew back to 1-1 via a penalty from Joey, then Blake headed uss into the lead. In the last minute of normal time, Jordan Stewart gave away a penalty, which Cresswell just converted, then in extra-time, Cresswell done us again.
TrickyTrev Posted 2 September 2006 Posted 2 September 2006 Always said he would flop in The Premiership.
TrickyTrev Posted 2 September 2006 Posted 2 September 2006 it didnt take a genius Well our very own Tharc once famously valued him at 10million and people still lament him leaving us forgetting how utter shite he was.
Deathside Posted 3 September 2006 Posted 3 September 2006 Just read that it was for £1.4m. Quite a loss for wigan then! Actually according to their OS it will rise to £1.9m depending on promotion and appearances. So that'll be £1.4 then

Stevosevic Posted 3 September 2006 Posted 3 September 2006 Connolly will score against us. He has got a bit of quality about him and is probably the best striker we have had since the O'Neill days (apart from Ferdinand). yes Dickov scored 20 goals in this division but he didnt have the natural ability Connolly has and with decent service will score bags of goals, its ashame we didnt give him the service he deserved as MA liked the long ball and CL's tactics were just poor.

Ability or not you've got to still put the ball in the net. Take Fryatt he's more in the Lineker mould of striker more of a poacher than someone who creates something out of nothing. Hume has more natural talent and is capable of creating something out of nothing. The only problem is at the moment there not getting the service there obvious talents and efforts deserve. Furthermore they need to stop playing so deep other wise by the time the ball gets in the box their too knackered to put the ball away.

Connolly was a very frustrating player. I'm still undecided if he just wasn't all that good or if he was living off poor service. Either way he didn't score enough and whoever's fault that is you need players who can play the system, he couldn't.

Service was so poor he always had to go and get the ball himself, leaving himself away from the danger areas for too much of the time. In this division he is a very good forward.

In this division he is a very good forward. Agreed. He didn't get much of a chance at Wigan - which was down to a combination of fitness and trying to get ahead of the Roberts/Camara partnership. Jewell did pay over the odds for him, and it seemed a bit of a panic signing at the time. However, he was a player who was/is up with the best in this division. You only have to look at his time with Wimbledon to see that.

There's always been something in his game that has prevented him from being a top quality footballer and premiership class, possibly his lack of pace. But he's more than good enough for this level and when his confidence is high then he'll score for fun.

Having said that, he does get involved in the game and can work in very little space. I was sorry to see him go, but we just weren't playing his kind of game here at all, I'm sure he must have been very frustrated here.

I was sad to see him go, but we got £3 million for him and got Hume and Fryatt for less than a million with that money. Fair do's.
