The People's Hero Posted 4 September 2006 Posted 4 September 2006 Anyone got this? If so - any thoughts? I've heard that a lot of it is extremely heavily influenced by past generations of American folk/blues artists ie 'copied' music with new lyrics etc.. Having said that, I really did enjoy Good As I Been to You - Dylan's take on traditional songs. Have ordered it and will pick it up from HMV this evening... looking forwards to it and just wish I had a CD player in my car!
Alexikokopops Posted 4 September 2006 Posted 4 September 2006 My dad will be buying this, I'll wait and get it off him because I'm cheap.
Cat Burger Posted 4 September 2006 Posted 4 September 2006 Well done to Sideshow Bob on the thoughtful and innovative album title.
The People's Hero Posted 4 September 2006 Author Posted 4 September 2006 He's recorded that many albums I'm surprised he hasn't repeated any names yet. He should do that. I might write to him and tell him.
Knighton Matt Posted 4 September 2006 Posted 4 September 2006 My dad will be buying this, I'll wait and get it off him because I'm cheap. My dad loves Bob Dylan. Fact.
The People's Hero Posted 4 September 2006 Author Posted 4 September 2006 My dad loves Bob Dylan. Fact. I'd heard a rumour, but I'm glad I can now put it in the 'confirmed' pile. My 'unsubstantiated' and 'just gut feeling' piles were getting a bit out of hand.
Finnegan Posted 7 September 2006 Posted 7 September 2006 Everyone should love Bob Dylan. I don't associate with people that don't. (Fact, btw.) I saw the Modern Times poster on the tube today though (or maybe the train from, Wycombe?) and scratched my chin most ponderously. I'll probably wait for the verdict of braver Dylan fans I know before taking the leap of faith. One of my favourite Dylan songs is a very recent one (Things Have Changed) so I'm quietly confident, but not ready to take the step!
The People's Hero Posted 8 September 2006 Author Posted 8 September 2006 I've listened to it three or four times now and it's all starting to fall in to place and work as an album for me. My Dad loves Dylan and when speaking to him about it, he said he was unsure of it at first, which is bizarre as he usually loves them from the start. Love and Theft took a while with me.. but that turned out to be one of my favourite Dylan albums. This is a bit bluesier in places, which I like, but I don't think it's quite as 'instant' or 'accessible' as previous albums. And you're right - 'Things Have Changed' is a fantastic song. I think it's really suited to Dylan's voice too...
Finnegan Posted 8 September 2006 Posted 8 September 2006 Seen the video? I have to say, as great as he may be, he could possibly be the campest burger-eater on the planet.
lookwhaticando Posted 12 September 2006 Posted 12 September 2006 Hurricane is my favourite Dylan song, by far.
The People's Hero Posted 12 September 2006 Author Posted 12 September 2006 Hurricane is my favourite Dylan song, by far. Good choice. I can't pick a favourite although at the moment I'm listening to a lot of 'Another Side of Bob Dylan' LP.
Chairman of the Bored Posted 12 September 2006 Posted 12 September 2006 A stone wall classic. Different and the same.....9/10. Love it.
lookwhaticando Posted 12 September 2006 Posted 12 September 2006 Good choice. I can't pick a favourite although at the moment I'm listening to a lot of 'Another Side of Bob Dylan' LP. I strongly approve of his version of All Along The Watchtower. Subterranean Homesick Blues is something different. Classic, really.
Cat Burger Posted 13 September 2006 Posted 13 September 2006 The track I'm looking forward to most from Dylan is his funeral match.
Alexikokopops Posted 13 September 2006 Posted 13 September 2006 I strongly approve of his version of All Along The Watchtower. Subterranean Homesick Blues is something different. Classic, really. The way you say "his version" makes it sound like he didn't write it...
lookwhaticando Posted 15 September 2006 Posted 15 September 2006 The way you say "his version" makes it sound like he didn't write it... I was almost certain he did, but didn't want to put it in so many words just incase I made a complete twat of myself in doing so.
Alexikokopops Posted 15 September 2006 Posted 15 September 2006 I was almost certain he did, but didn't want to put it in so many words just incase I made a complete twat of myself in doing so. Well now you know Bob wrote that one. Apparently Run DMC did a cover of it, I need to find this...
Finnegan Posted 25 September 2006 Posted 25 September 2006 One More Cup Of Coffee = Best. Song. Ever. It's as simple as that, kiddies.
Cobbo Posted 6 October 2006 Posted 6 October 2006 Me dad bought it and as a fan of Dylan from the 50's, 60's and beyond, he likes it. It'll do Bob.
Smudge Posted 8 October 2006 Posted 8 October 2006 It's a great album, I think it will be an Emmy winner just as "Time Out of Mind"was. He'll be on tour but not here.......shame. I saw him some years ago on the same billing as Paul Simon. I never thought I would get to see this amazing person but I did.
The People's Hero Posted 8 October 2006 Author Posted 8 October 2006 I've seen him once. He was fantastic.
