jack_LCFC Posted 7 September 2006 Posted 7 September 2006 I think people on this site are getting too worked up about James Weso, he's young and he's not as spectacular as people say -and one things for certain he hasn't proved himself enough for people to be making such positive early judgements of hime. I think he's promising, but calm it down! How many people have got him on their profiles as the saviour -the saddest is one with him as a religious symbol. Does anyone else agree?

Thracian Posted 7 September 2006 Posted 7 September 2006 Well the many who do recognise the potential of our younger players are not the only ones judging by the number of youth international honours they are collecting between them. Furthermore several are being selected time and again which doesn't suggest anyone at that level is changing their mind in a hurry. Weso was always going to be coming back slowly after his second fracture and I'm glad about that. I wouldn't call him spectacular anyway. More efficient, energetic, accurate and always around the action. When he gets the ball he very rarely gives it away. Important that.

Especially in a side where the ball is given away pretty often and not many lads put themselves about to win it back.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 7 September 2006 Posted 7 September 2006 I actually agree with the original poster. And yet this thread is just going to turn into a load of people saying how good he is. Which is pointless, we already know he's good. He's definitely being heaped with a whole load more expectation than is fair.

I can understand your cautious appraoch, but I can almost be certain that you've not really ever watched Wesolowski. I've luckily been able to watch him well over 30-40 times during his days in the academy and i've never seen a youngster as good as him at Leicester or on an opposing team during the youth games I saw him in. Whether the injuries he's suffered will ever allow him to truelly fulfill his potential i'm not too sure, Kelly seems to think he'll be able to. I'd be astonished if Wesolowski didn't become a top quality player, if he didn't then i'd really start to question how good a players got to be to make it to the top. He might not look spectacular but he's the complete midfield player we need. So good at tackling, a great passer and has one of the best footballing brains for a 19 year old. He'll never let our team down and he's the sort of player you need to help grind a result out or go chasing a game. So no, I don't garee.
JadeFalcon Posted 7 September 2006 Posted 7 September 2006 james knows what do to with a football and knows where its needed and how to put it there unlike most of the kick it anywhere straight upfield players we have now but then i'm biased

Seems as though that's what we're going to have to do on Saturday against WBA, don't think playing Johnson would be a fantastic idea either tbh. If Weso is fit then we should at least start him, to see how far he has come in his rehab and to see the state of his leg at the present time. P.s, I like the bottom of your sig

All well and good but he's still a 19-year-old recovering from 2 broken legs.

lcfc_jme Posted 7 September 2006 Posted 7 September 2006 and the only way you're going to see how far along he is in his rehab process is by starting him in a game but keeping him closely monitored throughout, only bringing him off when he is absolutely shattered or experiencing discomfort.

lcfc_jme Posted 7 September 2006 Posted 7 September 2006 well since piper which other youngsters have been so promising? its only the last couple of years that ANY have gotten anywhere near the 1st team Stearman? Stearman has looked promising for a while, but it has only been the last couple of years he has got his opportunity in the first team. Many other youngsters have looked promising at youth level, but have failed to make the grade as they step up to the senior levels, and have slowly drifted away into realms unknown to many football fans.
Ric Flair Posted 7 September 2006 Posted 7 September 2006 All well and good but he's still a 19-year-old recovering from 2 broken legs. And what's your point? It's been mentioned by myself and everybody that we need to be careful with Wesolowski and that's down to the coaching staff to do and hopefully he'll fulfill his potential. There's only this big hype about him because he's so damn good, i'm always going to praise the lad where possible because I have been doing so ala Thracian with Porter and Gradel since he came to us about 5 seasons ago. But he is the real deal, you don't get called up to your national squad at 19 when you've only made half a dozen appearances for a piss poor team if you've not got the minerals.

I'm just trying to disregard the ability side of things and focus on the weight of expectation being thrust upon a 19-year-old recovering from two serious injuries. I have no argument with his ability or potential, it's just that I would like to see him get through ten or fifteen games in the first team before the hype can be justified. I'm not criticising Weso, I'm just saying he's under pressure partly because the rest of the midfield are so shit.

Which is very unlike you I try to play Weso down, but it's hard not too. The author of this topic though was also implying that the lad doesn't warrant this hype as he isn't as good as we make out. If that is correct then i'd be astounded as he looks the business.
lcfc_jme Posted 7 September 2006 Posted 7 September 2006 I'd be very interested to see how he performed if he got anywhere near full-fitness and the men in charge gave him his chance in the starting 11. A run in the side would either prove all the hype surrounding him or just show that he is a promising talent that is struggling to perform to the best of his ability after a couple of major injuries

People should learn to take me a little more lightly. I'd have thought after 900plus posts that they'd have begun to realise I am not always critisizing as such, simply joining in with the topic and being happy in the process Nice phrase involving Micky Adams though I was quite amused by it. The thing about it is that it was so true and so annoying when it was going on. There's that word maybe again though...

Yeah Micky gave us Sir Les and all, but he ruined himself by signing garbage players just because they were "experienced" and "had the qualities which we required". I'm not arguing with it, those players did have the qualities we needed - years ago when they were younger and in their prime.
Loake Posted 7 September 2006 Posted 7 September 2006 In my opinion people have high expectations of Weso, and thus far he has not delivered. I know it is not because of his lack of ability, but I am starting to get worried about the amount of injuries he is getting. I also think he is not proven enough at this level, as the original poster pointed out. People need to lower their expectations otherwise they may(or may not) end up being dissappointed. It's better to have low expectations and possibly exceed them IMO.
