The People's Hero Posted 12 September 2006 Posted 12 September 2006 Which of these is the best? Or others? Reason I ask is that I note that there are some priced reasonably on ebay.

I used my mates before, it shows a nice map of where ur going. So if your on a road in the dark you don't know then its ok, because it shows you what the road is like.
Monk Posted 12 September 2006 Posted 12 September 2006 I use the AA map in the back seat pocket and plan my route before I go, and laugh at all the drivers who cannot believe the road diversion is not listed on their sat nav. neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
hairy Posted 12 September 2006 Posted 12 September 2006 There was a story recently on the BBC site about a sat nav that directed you off a cliff somewhere in Merseyside. You just cant beat scouse wit can you
The People's Hero Posted 12 September 2006 Author Posted 12 September 2006 I ask partly because I recently had to go to Tunbridge Wells to pick up my brother. He doesn't know the place and neither do I. I spent at least an hour negotiating their ridiculous one way system. Tomtom would surely have taken me right where I needed to be?
Knighton Matt Posted 12 September 2006 Posted 12 September 2006 My mate got pulled over by the police for studying a print out of the AA route planner whilst driving. True fact. p.s. Go for Tom Tom. Pricey but worth it I understand!
cisono Posted 12 September 2006 Posted 12 September 2006 My mate got pulled over by the police for studying a print out of the AA route planner whilst driving. True fact. And not too surprising either!

Nationwider Posted 14 September 2006 Posted 14 September 2006 I use the AA map in the back seat pocket and plan my route before I go, and laugh at all the drivers who cannot believe the road diversion is not listed on their sat nav. neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee I drive all over and never have the need for Sat Nav either. I use me trusty old road atlas, Multimap and my phone to get me there. I'm just a Luddite. Having said that, I know a couple of people that swear by TomTom.
Rincewind Posted 14 September 2006 Posted 14 September 2006 It's ok until it says take the next turning on your right and half hour later you realise that you have turned onto outback road to some village of the dammed and is not listed in Tom Toms databank. Apart from that they are useful if there is no back street driver or woman in your car.

Daggers Posted 14 September 2006 Posted 14 September 2006 I drive all over and never have the need for Sat Nav either. As a real man I never use a map, directions, signs or stop to ask anyone for help. I rely on my inbuilt male sense of direction to navigate the byways of Britain, even if it means getting home via Lossiemouth.
