Flemmish Posted 16 September 2006 Posted 16 September 2006 Class, who is our No. 10? That would be Andy Johnson.
Thracian Posted 16 September 2006 Posted 16 September 2006 Well, it wasn't the win I thought we'd get, but I'm happy with the result and the reports of the performance. We all know we aren't champion contenders, and I still maintain that we'll be mid-table come the end of the season [which is what almost everyone predicted pre-season]. Roll on the mighty Colchester I don't see why not either - and at least that might prompt a change of thinking from Barton Fox. But Kelly's got to stop hedging his bets and set his stall out to win. Of course we don't want a relegation battle but it's the top end of the table we're aiming at. You get three points for a win not for a draw or a defeat. His job, therefore, is to win matches not simply to avoid losing. If we hadn't got players with the ability to do that I could understand Kelly's predicament but we do. We just don't play them all.
Daggers Posted 16 September 2006 Posted 16 September 2006 Oh you optimist...we're 21st! I'm a numbnut!
Fez of Mahrez Posted 16 September 2006 Posted 16 September 2006 Can someone save those two pictures of our goal celebrations as jpegs on Photobucket or something for me to use one of them as an avatar? My piece of shit computer steadfastly refuses to do so. Thanks in advance.

Swedging Posted 16 September 2006 Posted 16 September 2006 A LOVE SUPREME, Sunderland fanzine website, match report makes interesting reading "Alnwick was forced into action on one occasion after Cunningham was beat for pace by the lively Johnson." !!!
Leicfox Posted 16 September 2006 Posted 16 September 2006 REPORT FROM MY M8, WHO'S A SUNDERLAND SEASON TICKET HOLDER. Aye, was there mate.....Leicester played well....closed down and stopped us playing... First half we were dire..never picked up anyone.. Could tell in the 2nd half that Leicester felt they could win it and seemd to crank it up a notch. We have lost 3 strikers in 2 games now due to injury which hasnt helped. Yorke is short of match fitness and a few looked heavy legged. Suppose a draw could be a fair result, but I wouldnt have complained if Leicester had won to be honest. Your fans were on the back of Matty Fryatt until he scored Spoke to a few fans in the pub before hand and they are getting on Rob Kellys back saying he too much "everyones friend" and "Mr nice guy"...
Daggers Posted 16 September 2006 Posted 16 September 2006 Keane said it was us that stopped them playing rather than them not playing well. All credit to Kelly, especially if you link it to the other thread where the Observer report demonstrates the obvious motivation he instilled in them at half time. No doubt the 'Sack Kelly' bollox will continue
Babylon Posted 16 September 2006 Posted 16 September 2006 No doubt the 'Sack Kelly' bollox will continue No matter who we have in charge, certain people will be calling for their head after about 5 minutes.
Manwell Pablo Posted 16 September 2006 Posted 16 September 2006 No matter who we have in charge, certain people will be calling for their head after about 5 minutes. Not having a shot at RK or the management team but until this team competes with the top 12 clubs in this division I will feel we are under achieving no matter who we are beating...or in this case drawing with . Just because we have a half decent result away from home does not mean our club isn't rotten to the core, nor does it excuse losing to Hull at home. I'd wish people would stop reacting to one off results on this forum and look at the bigger picture. We are struggling to compete, we've picked up a good point today but we have a Colchester team on a good run to come on Saturday and if we don’t beat them we are back in trouble. Nice to see Weso in the first XI.

Wils Posted 16 September 2006 Posted 16 September 2006 Loving these pictures: Is Paddy Mac celebrating by himself or is he in the process of sliding into the others?
Manwell Pablo Posted 16 September 2006 Posted 16 September 2006 And apparently completing 90 minutes with all his customary determination. He managed the whole 90? christ....had the old SSN on but couldn't hear it well, I doubt it was much worse than listening to bar bar however. That really is excellent news.
Daggers Posted 16 September 2006 Posted 16 September 2006 Not having a shot at RK or the management team but until this team competes with the top 12 clubs in this division I will feel we are under achieving Because the squad is underachieving based on a perceived potential or LCFC should be a club competing at a higher level? Just because we have a half decent result away from home does not mean our club isn't rotten to the core, nor does it excuse losing to Hull at home. I do not accept that we are "rotten to the core". We lost to Hull on the back of a quite magnificent goal. I make no excuses for the frailties of the team - I'm realistic enough to understand that this is what we have. We are in the process of restructuring the working mechanism of the club and that is the method by which we progress to a better future. Not this season, maybe not next season, but... I'd wish people would stop reacting to one off results on this forum and look at the bigger picture... The problem resides in those that perceive us as a Premiership side and desire quick fixes to enact it. Quick fixes do not work, we are slowly building a sound base from which to work after unwise judgments in the past.

Mainly because we have the fan base, the potential fan base, the history, and the facilties to compete as a top 12 championship club, at least. Linking into to that my rotten to the core comment was not aimed at the team which I will admit shows promise and the only thing the board is doing correctly at the moment is attempting to hold on to every last bit of it...for dear life. Unfortuantley it seems to have all its eggs in one basket, keep hold of the current team, and trying to turn LCFC into a merchandising American Style, foxlot, one year kit cycle, free flags for a lucky few (rest of you can pay a fiver) franchise . The one thing that really does hurt for me it the loss of the old Post Horn Gallop. Seeing people mindlessly clap onlg to that awful remix really does just some up the changing of times for me. It's sad. What happens if fewer player develop than expected? Whats plan B? We haven't got one. Look at the clubs above and ask yourself what have they got in terms of history and fanbase that we haven't, then look down and ask yourself the same question.

Bemoaning a remix of a tune ~ you're sounding like you are venturing dangerously into midlife crisis territory mateyboy If the flag thing bothers you that much then PM me and we'll meet up at the Colchester game, I'll let you have one of the one's I've got. I think we stand on very dangerous ground by not having reserves playing in a league - Thracian hit the nail on the head in another post I read recently. I see no difference between us and Wednesday, Forest, Fulham and Pompey - only a mix of luck and time. As one changes so does the other, our time will come again.

Been a hard month looking like I will have to miss the Colchester game. I'm not arsed about the flags it's what they embody. Forest you have a point with the circumstance thing. However Wigan, Fulham, Boro, Charlton, Watford, Sheff U, Reading, Portsmouth, just the teams I can be bothered to name, keeping to the prem only. Are all on a par or smaller clubs than us. Look down what do you see..Forest. <_< We're about 6 league places away from being the biggest under achievers in the UK. I my sound a good 15 years older than I am moaning about the Post Horn gallop but I grew up with that, it's tradition, it is part what the club used to be, I feel like Will young has just covered one of my songs. <_<
