Cobbo Posted 6 December 2004 Posted 6 December 2004 Tiatto and Keown still struggling too Connolly ScareCraig Levein is waiting on the fitness of striker David Connolly ahead of Saturday's Championship clash against Reading at the Walkers Stadium. Connolly has missed just one league fixture since joining the club from West Ham in the summer, and has partnered James Scowcroft in attack for all six games since Levein's arrival from Hearts. The 27-year-old centre forward was replaced by Lee Morris with just 10 minutes of last weekend's 2-0 victory over Leeds United remaining. And speaking at his Monday post-match press conference, the City boss confirmed that the change had not been a tactical one. He said: "David Connolly has picked up a slight thigh strain from Saturday. It's not as bad as we feared at first, but we will have to wait and see whether he will be fit for the game against Reading on Saturday." Meanwhile, Levein revealed that he was still unsure as to whether Martin Keown and Danny Tiatto would feature against the Royals. He added: "Martin Keown and Danny Tiatto are still receiving treatment and we will know more about how they are progressing towards the end of the week." OS
Cobbo Posted 6 December 2004 Author Posted 6 December 2004 Blake and Scowcroft, horrible. 43876 I think he'd go with Morris to be honest. We need a little bit of pace upfront, surely?
Mark Posted 6 December 2004 Posted 6 December 2004 Blake and Scowcroft, horrible. 43876 Certainly is, to them who think Connolly is bad, you're in for a suprise when you see them pair
Anish Posted 6 December 2004 Posted 6 December 2004 Hope Morris gets his chance and scores a goal or two. Connolly has had more than his fair share of chances and has shown that he isn't up to the required standard.
BlueArmyGirl Posted 6 December 2004 Posted 6 December 2004 It gives someone else the opportunity to fight for a place as a striker instead of Connolly.
shen Posted 6 December 2004 Posted 6 December 2004 It gives someone else the opportunity to fight for a place as a striker instead of Connolly. 44041 Aye.. it's about time he was 'rested' too, so it's a lucky coincidence really
Scow Posted 7 December 2004 Posted 7 December 2004 Could be a blessing in disguise. Scowcroft and Morris could be a useful partnership. I think you would see Morris getting in to the box more than Connolly, which would help us create more goal scoring opportunities. A bit more pace aswell which would force us to push the opposition back...
Bert Posted 7 December 2004 Posted 7 December 2004 Even if Connolly is passed fit, i think we should leave him on the bench for this one and start with Morris and Scowcroft up front, and after about 65 minutes (when Lee Morris is knackered) bring Connolly on as Supersub. IMO This will be very good because, Connolly don't like being put on the bench, which could well make him even more determined to score, he will be full of energy and maybe will want to prove that he is worthy of a starting place here.
Ric Flair Posted 7 December 2004 Posted 7 December 2004 Don't get me wrong, Morris looks a handy player but if you think he's the answer to all our goalscoring problems then your mistaken. People moan about Tommy Wright not being good enough and only scoring goals at reserve level, but if you calculate how many games Morris has played for us in the reserves/first team/pre-season you'll also see he hasn't managed one goal! One #### goal, can't see that changing. He wasn't ever prolific at Sheff United or Derby, I hope that changes here but i'm not getting my hopes up. I think even Blake would score more than Morris.
MON Posted 7 December 2004 Posted 7 December 2004 Scowy and Blake up front!!!! Scowy has the aerial ability, and it seems blake has a it of pace about him. Give blake another chance.

MON Posted 7 December 2004 Posted 7 December 2004 Blakes got a better record. Morris isnt a striker IMO. Blake in!!!!

In the last home game the finish for the dissalowed goal was class. I think he should get another chance, like Dion did.
Ash Posted 7 December 2004 Posted 7 December 2004 Well , i feel Morris should . Morris is alot more talented than Blake , and also alot younger ... Blake won't be here this time next season , Morris will !
Guest Posted 7 December 2004 Posted 7 December 2004 Morris. Blake does look hungrier, but I think it's time to see what Morris can do.

To say he is not up to the standard is wrong.

Ash Posted 7 December 2004 Posted 7 December 2004 No way is Blake as fast as Scowcroft !! ....Scowcroft ,wanted blood Vs Leeds
