Ric Flair Posted 29 September 2006 Posted 29 September 2006 Williams' goalscoring for us has ALWAYS been poor - whether under Adams, Levein or kelly. What grounds are there for thinking he's going to change now? Recent games have shown that Porter is not a natural winger . He may well be acting under instructions but his game is suffering through not going forward enough. Tiatto was fit in the last game but wasn't used. He has to date been our most creative midfield player this season. I wouldn't be surprised to see him start on Saturday. If Porter had enough confidence he'd tell Hughes where to go with setpieces - especially as Hughes' record with them has been so poor. Hold on squire. Tiatto has set two goals up this season, which is what counts but most creative? In what sense? He doesn't get forward himself. Porter had a pretty awful game against Colchester as did all of the team, but in previous games he's probably been our most lively midfielder. He likes to push forward and if he works on his crossing then we've got a decent player. Not that I went to Sunderland, but from seeing highlights and speaking to fans that did go, Porter got forward regularly and had a few shots himself. He's always been a winger, although he did have a spell in central midfield for the ressies last season which has cultivated in him toughening up and being given a chance in the first team. If Tiatto does come back in for Porter then he's going to have to keep up his impressive set piece delivery because he offers us nothing going forward in normal play. He's not disciplined enough to stay on the flanks and with us having a centre half at left back then it's criminal to leave the flank without enough cover to protect. Porter is our best left sided player at the minute, the only way I could see it working for both of them to play is in a wing-back role for Tiatto and Porter playing as the left hand-side of a midfield 3, with instructions for both of them to cover one another when they push forward. We don't have a consistent right sided midfielder and with Stearman at right wing-back with Kenton covering him defensively and Wesolowski covering him when he pushes forward I think on paper it looks a much stronger team than we currently field.
Manwell Pablo Posted 29 September 2006 Posted 29 September 2006 Kellys insistance with 4-4-2 is wearing a bit thin. We're extremly easy to work out.
