Police to probe Barton incident

Manchester City's Joey Barton could face disciplinary action after exposing his backside to Everton fans at the end of the 1-1 draw at Goodison Park.

Television pictures captured Barton's actions and City boss Stuart Pearce confirmed he had been approached about the incident by Merseyside Police.

Pearce said: "I did not see it. But if anything did happen, we will look at it with an open mind and deal with it."

Everton fans reacted furiously before City keeper Nicky Weaver intervened.

Pearce added: "The police approached me afterwards to make me aware of what had happened.

"I am sure the timing of our goal had a lot to do with any over-celebration.

"Maybe also there was the fact that one or two people have been saying things about our away form."

Merseysider Barton has been involved in previous incidents with Everton fans, having had an altercation with a Toffees supporter in Thailand during a pre-season tour in summer 2005 which saw him sent back to England in disgrace.

With the police already involved, it seems only a matter of time before the Football Association launches its own inquiry, with a ban virtually certain should the case against Barton be proved.

The 23-year-old's post-match conduct took the gloss of a hard-earned point for City, which halted a run of 10 defeats in their last 11 away games.

 The silly bastard.

No doubt FIFA will have to introduce new rules in the game to prevent this kinda thing... they did with removing your shirt - so why not the shorts?

It''l be an interesting meeting when the management team ask him to repeat event so they can

"Look at it with an open mind and deal with it." :P

I like the way Nicky Weaver tried to pull his kecks up as if prolonging the arse exposure another 0.13 seconds would overrun into the official time whereby the FA can issue players with a three-match suspension for mooning.

Not seen it but it sounds quite funny. He'll definitely get banned for it when it's proven, but hats off to the lad, he knows how to have a bit of a laugh.

I just realized now I missed a great opportunity - instead of calling him a silly bastard, I shoulda called him a silly arse. Oh well, what's done is done and all that. Better luck next time, 'lookydo'.

Well if it's caught on TV - which it clearly was - it will be proven and he'll probably be fined and handed a one match ban.

Hilarious though.

Perhaps it would seem a lot more in good humour all around if he and Everton didn't have a little history going on...:doh::thumbup:

Not like you to miss opportunities such as those, it quite simply isn't good enough son :P A one match ban is pretty weak though rearly when you consider the nature of the offence ;) Maybe he should have mooned the Man United fans, that'd have gone down a treat I'm sure  Top bloke though for continually winding up the Blue Scousers

Yup, give Lookydo enough time and he'll get to the bottom of it by being cheeky.

I can't help but worry for Barton's future career plans as I fear he may have rectum.

Does anyone remember Fowler 'revealing his buttocks' to the Kop many moons ago :D:ph34r:

Yes and some Leicester fans who'd been baiting him all through the game suddenly lost their sense of humour and complained.

The place seems to be filling up with such people these days. There'll be issuing a "this is what you can do" guide shortly. Basically sit down and chew a pie I'd imagine. Oh - and three cheeers at the end. Hip hip ....!

Loss of humour? I wonder if any of them post here over on the LCFC forum :whistle:
