Matt Posted 1 October 2006 Posted 1 October 2006 Last year insurance £850ish on a Vauxhall Corsa (W Reg Plate) in Febuary I bought a VW Polo (04 Plate) when I updated my insurance the gave me a £40 refund bringing it down to the £810ish mark, I'm just getting quotes because I need to renew in December and the quotes I am getting are around just under the £900 mark, I've had one quote of £989... Doesn't make sense... Bloody money grabbing insurance bastards! If only it was legal to go uninsured, I know that would lead to a whole lot of problems but its just seems the easiest way because tbh if I had an accident unless it was a write off I would even attempt at claiming on insurance i'd sort it myself...
SystonFox Posted 1 October 2006 Posted 1 October 2006 because your new car is newer age wise and may be of a higher insurance group than your Vaux Corsa. did you get a NCB for the year or not?

Matt Posted 1 October 2006 Author Posted 1 October 2006 because your new car is newer age wise and may be of a higher insurance group than your Vaux Corsa. did you get a NCB for the year or not? Yeah but what i'm saying is when I changed from my Corsa to my Polo, I updated my insurance and I actually got a refund...i.e Upgrading to a Polo is cheaper than a Corsa (At the time presumably) but now I am trying to get insurance for a year it seems to be going up. Yes I have 2 years No Claims, because as I said the only time I would ever claim is if I ever had a write off any other case I wouldn't even bother. TBH whats the point in me claiming? I have to pay about £300 complusory excess anyway so in most cases work would be done for £300 or less so there'd be no point in me dealing with the insurance company anyway.
SystonFox Posted 1 October 2006 Posted 1 October 2006 so £900 with 2 yrs NCB on a 1.4 (i guess?) 04 plate polo? jesus man you must be with the wrong company. next year on my saxo VTR i will only be paying £800 odd with 1 yr NCB and a smash which was my fault causing 5k damage to a brand new BMW 5 series in my 1st car.

Generally speaking mate, motor rates are hardening up at the moment. Some Insurance Companies (those most hunger to 'fill' their capacity) haven't hardened their rates yet, but will soon. My advice is to shop around. I'd guess that any increase could be based on any number of factors. One is bound to be that your present car is worth more than your previously insured one, the Insurers are therefore taking on increased 'exposure'.. and they want more premium. To be honest with you mate... I suspect you might end up paying more than last year - shop around though As a warning to others... motor rates are hardening up and property rates typically follow 6-8 months behind... so your premiums are probably about to increase.
The People's Hero Posted 1 October 2006 Posted 1 October 2006 So would/do a lot of folk. It is legalised robbery. I suspect a lot of people would suscribe to that school of though.... until they were hit by an uninsured driver.
lookwhaticando Posted 1 October 2006 Posted 1 October 2006 Isn't there some sort of law where if you have 250k in cash in the bank, you don't need to pay for car insurance? Or am I imagining things? Or confusing the situation in England with the situation here? Frankly I just don't know.
stez Posted 1 October 2006 Posted 1 October 2006 because your new car is newer age wise and may be of a higher insurance group than your Vaux Corsa. did you get a NCB for the year or not? jesus! mine's 180 notes and a balked at that!! i'm with direct line at the moment, purely for the 'extras' and being cheapish
Muz Posted 1 October 2006 Posted 1 October 2006 I pay £150 a month for my Vauxhall Corsa 1.4 SRi. But I am 17 and its my first car so its probably bout right. Kills me every month though a big chunk of the wages!

The Norwich put up their motor premiums by 15% recently and so everyone is following suit.

Have you had the renewal price through yet, from your current insurer?
The People's Hero Posted 2 October 2006 Posted 2 October 2006 Have you had the renewal price through yet, from your current insurer? Had an email through today, move your motor Insurance to the post office, apparently they will match your best alternative renewal offer AND give you £50 back. I know they have a few markets for motor, obviously one of them is on an income drive. Wonder surprise me if it's the Zurich.
Matt Posted 2 October 2006 Author Posted 2 October 2006 So far Tesco is the best quote at £831. As soon as I came online tonight this article popped up on AOL (Coincidence?!) Average car insurance premiums have crept up this year and are set to continue rising, it has been revealed. The average premium rose from £462.15 in January to £466.63 in July, figures from Sainsbury's Bank showed. The average premium for men is now £492.77 and for women it is £428.92. Sainsbury's Bank estimates that it costs around £2,202 a year to keep a car on the road, with insurance the biggest expense after petrol. Drivers aged 25-39 had the biggest rise in premiums in the first half of this year - rising 1.37 per cent to an average of £576.11. Over-65s had the biggest fall, with their premiums coming down 2.3 per cent to an average of £33.34. Richard Clark, Sainsbury's car insurance manager, said: "There is strong competition in the car insurance industry so it pays to keep a close eye on your premiums and be prepared to shop around. "Sadly, many motorists don't do this and they are potentially losing out on large savings, in some cases well over £100."
