Scow Posted 5 October 2006 Posted 5 October 2006 Has anyone on here done one of these? I've just got a new job and I need to start driving. I've already had about 10 lessons, but the last one was almost 2 years ago now. Is it worth doing?

Is it worth doing? one of my neighbours did them, he passed and has been driving for 3 years or so, now. so i guess he'd say 'yes'
The People's Hero Posted 5 October 2006 Posted 5 October 2006 Yes, unless you can find a mate to teach you.
Newcastle_Fox Posted 5 October 2006 Posted 5 October 2006 Not good to be taught to crash . Two of my friends failed when they did theirs intensive over a week but they started on their 17th birthday and then both passed second time about a month later. I think if you already have had lessons and can do most of the stuff then a intensive driving course should be beneficial as will give u lots of lessons and a chance to pass your test. If you fail it will most likely because of nerves so will give u practice for 2nd time round pass. Best drivers pass 2nd time round
The People's Hero Posted 5 October 2006 Posted 5 October 2006 I'd say 4th time round drivers are best!
Wils Posted 5 October 2006 Posted 5 October 2006 I wanted to do one but didnt have the money to pay upfront. I think you have to have some driving experience and have passed your theory ( Which i passed today ) before you can do it. Go for it i'd say.
Newcastle_Fox Posted 5 October 2006 Posted 5 October 2006 I'd say 4th time round drivers are best! U just love the glory of being assessed and wanted to prolong ur L plate wearing
Smudge Posted 5 October 2006 Posted 5 October 2006 Nah, I was just sh it! You must have an impersonator, this doesn't sound like you.
cisono Posted 5 October 2006 Posted 5 October 2006 What is that? A driving course that teaches you how to crash a car?
The People's Hero Posted 5 October 2006 Posted 5 October 2006 You must have an impersonator, this doesn't sound like you. I was alright... I rushed. Never had another lessons also as I was skint, my lessons were sporadic and I spent my money on tests etc.. :pinch:
cisono Posted 5 October 2006 Posted 5 October 2006 I think I did one of those in Italy ... worked for me! (But I guess UK driving tests may be tougher)
Bert Posted 5 October 2006 Posted 5 October 2006 I think these are good, the only bad thing is, that you don't have as much road experience as you do when you've taken normal lessons, but for a quick pass, these are top.
Ric Flair Posted 6 October 2006 Posted 6 October 2006 I know a mate who did it over a few weeks and passed first time and has been fine.
Thracian Posted 6 October 2006 Posted 6 October 2006 I think I did one of those in Italy ... worked for me! (But I guess UK driving tests may be tougher) But Italy, and especially Milan, is a place of its own when it comes to driving. I even saw cars parked nose in to the pavement when there wsn't a space to park length-wise. And driving along the pavement was no big deal either. I really felt at home!.

Let's just say that Milan is better than Rome All big cities tend to be really bad with driving/parking. I would recommend against driving in Naples in particular!

lookwhaticando Posted 6 October 2006 Posted 6 October 2006 Milan rocks! COME ON GET US MEEELAN! Nipples rock too! Only when the owner is excited or cold.

Been to Milan myself, and every single car has some form of light damage to it, inflicted, usually, by some parking mishap. The Milan resident's philosophy, when it comes to parking (*cough*) things is: find a hole and fill it. Smart Cars are best in Milan - you find a small gap between two cars parked parallel to the curb, and park your Smart nose-to-curb. It's really quite funny to see all these cars parked in the 'wrong' direction. Turin was also a bit rough for parking - more of the same really, plenty of parking-inflicted damage to the cars and so on.

I got the impression people living just outside Rome would take only their old already-damaged vehicles into the city and keep their new cars/motorbikes at home or restrict their driving/riding to outside the city/other travel.
