Elvis Hammond

I thought elvis was the most improved player and made a big difference to the team. His first touch was actually alright and he worked really hard. Anyone agree?

The lad deserves his place at the moment - works his bloody arse into the ground all game and really benefits us.

If Fryatt was fit at the moment would you play him over either Elvis or Boo?

Worked his bloody socks off today. Standing ovation says it all.

yeah thank god finally about time now he is starting to work hard now there is a guy how desevers his wages go Hammond

he was awesome actually. even though he didnt score when he probably should when we still 1-0 up he worked his cock off, ran everywhere and his 1st touch is alot better. should start against leeds and hope he can get his 2nd league goal soon.

That's exactly the kind of workrate I expect for the cause.

Leicester City Eunuchs.

That's a bit harsh on the lad.

Hammond has always tried hard. He will run and run and run all day long if you let him. He doesn't give up.

His effort has won him a few fans, even if his quality in front of goals has lost him a lot more. :(

true he adds pace to the team but hard for him to put the ball in the back of the net :P

I said his pace was vital. Couldn't see well enoug to tell if he palyed a part in the winner but he certainly had a hand in the other two, the second one obviously, but the first because it was his run to the right which enablked Hume to turn the defender and leave himself clear. Hume recognised this and gave Hammond a pat of congratulations.

The pace of both strikers was crucial because, although Williams was a big improvement on Hughes, there was still very little constructive football from midfield and defence.

Tiatto's gifting their second goal through an aimless clearance straight to their man was criminal football wise. And then he almost conceded another goal with a half-hearted back pass and had the affrontery to grumble at Logan.

The man was a liability from first to last and featured in two constructive moves as I counted.

Right I don't rate Elvis as a footballer 'cos his skills infront of goal are completely the opposite of those required by a striker. But his work-rate is immense and he frightens the life out of the opposition defence all game. If everybody worked as hard as Elvis does, then we'd be battering teams every week and we'd win a lot more games than we currently do :yesyes:

He should keep his place after that performance. Amazing :)

Gave 100% a great performance. He is a league 1 player at best though should have buried that chance in the first half and it could have cost us dearly. Definitely worth his place in the team on today's showing though just for sheer workrate and trying to make things happen.

Bingo.

Nail on head.

Helped us get three points against Ipswich, three today and saved the Birmingham game. Looked really chuffed to get an ovation at the end. As did Hume.

Shocking! Not the sort of accuracy I have come to expect from you Thracian. Been celebrating our win?

Couldn't agree more. I've only seen two first teamers play well for the Reserves..O'Grady and Hammond. They both tried their hardest whatever. In fact I cannot recall Elvis giving less than 100%.

In comparing his value to Fryatt the question to me is, who else provides the pace that upsets defenders? Yes, Hume does it too - he nearly harrassed a goal out of the goallie on the edge of their box - but he's not quite as quick and strong as Hammond and you lose the speed when you play Fryatt and, more controversially, I think you lose some of the team ethos.

It is not particularly a criticism but I think Fryatt is a selfish striker - and sometimes you need that - but Elvis makes space for others and demands attention.

Use all our strikers prudently would be my course of action. Trouble is Hammond never quite looks the part that Fryatt does but were I a defender I think I'd know who'd give me most trouble of the two. Hammond!

He and Hume caused the saints problems all afternoon.

Hope they recover in time for Tuesday so they can do the same to Leeds.

Hammond and O'Grady are embarrassing footballers. They are like Trevor Benjamin melted down into two separate entities (Hammond being the 100% effort but no basic footballing ability and O'Grady being the human battering ram/occasional footballer.)

Agree. Them two worked harder than any other strikeforce ive ever seen. Hammond should have scored but Hume made it up for him :P

Again, spot on.

The difference being, I was never ashamed to see Trev turn out for us. He was 100% effort and there was the occasional bit of evidence of some ability.

Hammond/O'Grady join the ranks of players alongside Nathan Blake though. Just sh it. Regardless of effort, you can't polish a turd.

I thought Elvis had a shocker on saturday. I even thought at times he couldn't be arsed to try. Perhaps I was watching a different game but whenever he jumped up for the ball or went in for a challenge that he didn't win he'd just stand there and winge instead of closing the opponent down again. His aerial ability is terrible, Hume was winning a lot of headers and is alot smaller than Elvis!.

Perhaps i'm being unfair on Elvis but he isn't good enough and hasn't even got age or in-experience to blame. He's never going to be good enough. That 6 yard volley he put wide sums him up. That could have cost us the game, it's a good job Hume was on fire.

Get someone in whilst Fryatt is out.

Well you should know, you produce enough of them.

If you'd been there on Saturday, you'd have seen Elvis set up BOTH of Hume's goals.

Hammond may not be Thierry Henry mark 2 but only a complete imbecile would put him in the same bracket as Nathan Blake!

Get your pointed hood off and try watching the game for a change.

The standing ovation Elvis got when he went off suggested the majority of fans appreciated his contribution, as did Hume.

To read you and TPH anyone would have thought we'd LOST on Saturday.

In fact I suspect you'd both have preferred that result!
