Thracian Posted 20 October 2006 Posted 20 October 2006 people can wear what they want. i couldn't give a shit. free world, do what you want, i'll just get on with my own life. Free world? Well I'm not going to open the curtains. I sincerely hope it works out that way for you. Presume I'll notice you standing up at the match Saturday.
Thracian Posted 20 October 2006 Posted 20 October 2006 Understand what you are saying, and I also believe in multi culturalism. Its fine that other cultures influence what we stand for as a nation and I do not have a problem with muslims, and I'm not scared of them or what we've seen on the news over the past 5 years. I personally think a lot of the islamophobia has been caused by complete bollocks reporting and media spin more than a genuine issue. That said, I stand by the veils comment. For me, I could not talk to someone with their face covered in a relaxed and amicable manner, more so, that they dont want to communicate with me. I do not agree with isolation of communities. This aside I do believe it hampers their ability to do the job, speaking from personal experience. A lot of people think like that. Strange. I could describe many of my former colleagues in less than complimentary terms after a night on the tiles or in their leisure time, but the ones I knew that went out to Iraq and the Middle East weren't renowed for "bollocks reporting". They were extraordinarily brave, determined, compassionate and conscientious people and were also bloody good at their jobs. It's one thing going out there with the might of a military machine behind you and quite another thing being out there with a notebook and recording equipment. A friend of mine has recently given me a book about Islam written by a Muslim. If you want to get the real picture you should read it. In fact it should be read by everyone. You might get a clearer idea of how much fundamentalists wish to integrate and live in mutually respectful harmony. It would also give you a sound basis for whatever opinion you ended up with.
Daggers Posted 20 October 2006 Author Posted 20 October 2006 So if she was assisting children in a classroom with a male teacher what would happen then???? <_< If it was me, she would start off by feeling an irresistible urge to stroke my hair and make me cups of tea...followed by the yearning desire to make mad passionate love to me. I tell you, it is simply not funny how many times this happens...

DanTheFoxBhoy Posted 21 October 2006 Posted 21 October 2006 Shall I walk into a mosk with know shoes on? No cos I'd get a right leathering. Wearing a veil in our public places should'nt be allowed especially not when your in a church of ENGLAND school teaching young kids. Good point, that there's a time and a place for everything.

breadandcheese Posted 21 October 2006 Posted 21 October 2006 I may have got this wrong but... what I have heard is that she would remove the veil when teaching children / in the classroom but would otherwise wear it, especially when male colleagues were around. Wonder what faces she was making behind the veil during staff meetings I read that too, which shows it is not feasible to wear a veil in a teaching role. All the teaching assistant is fighting for is to replace religious discrimination with sexual discrimination. She, a veil wearer can remove the veil and teach perfectly well, provided she doesn't have to work with male colleagues. Discrimination against men. A headmaster would poop themselves thinking of all the different employment situations that could arise. They might as well setup an employment tribunal in the school. I believe most muslims wouldn't want their kids taught by a veiled lady, because they want the best education for their children. 80% of communication is non-verbal, as someone has said, so the children cannot be getting the best education, which is of paramount importance. This lady should recognise that if a religious or personal obligation impedes them from doing a job in such a way that it is harmful and detrimental to others, then the duty is to those being harmed, and not the individual. What stinks most is that we the taxpayers are funding both the school's legal defence and the legal aid to pay for this stupid stand by a person who refuses to recognise, despite various behavioural studies by various psychologists and teaching institutions, that being unable to see a face is detrimental to a child's learning.
Simi Posted 21 October 2006 Posted 21 October 2006 Send 'em all back. Shall I walk into a mosk with know shoes on? No cos I'd get a right leathering.
