Babylon Posted 15 October 2006 Posted 15 October 2006 Is anyone else sick and tired of all this black, white, muslim, christian, religion, race blah blah blah that is in the news every single day. Wha the hell did the press report before all this kicked off. I can't remember it being like this 10/15 years ago.

No one at the school has been bothered....this is an issue being kicked up by a couple of bigots and the media. Smoke and mirrors! Pathetic, isn't it!
Babylon Posted 15 October 2006 Posted 15 October 2006 Absolutely. No one at the school has been bothered....this is an issue being kicked up by a couple of bigots and the media. Smoke and mirrors! Pathetic, isn't it! Problem is both sides are as bad as each other now. People of faith/colour different to the majority in this country screaming racism when they hear something they don't like. ie The muslim leader in Blackburn saying "Jack Straw has declared war on muslims". Now, the last time I looked saying you think it's important to have face to face communication is not an act of war!!!! Reactions like that only fuel the situation as it gives the bloody bnp/sun etc more ammunition to stir up hate. Personally I couldn't give a monkeys if someone wants to cover themselves head to toe. What I do believe is that there are times and places that it is not appropriate. Whether the story is true or not, but it was reported that someone was allowed through passport control wearing it. That for me is out of order!!
Knighton Matt Posted 15 October 2006 Posted 15 October 2006 Do you think they're got confused between 'VEIL' and 'EVIL'... because EVIL teachers should definitely be sacked.
The People's Hero Posted 15 October 2006 Posted 15 October 2006 Do you think they're got confused between 'VEIL' and 'EVIL'... because EVIL teachers should definitely be sacked. Genius. I bet you're so clever you forget who you are sometimes.

The People's Hero Posted 15 October 2006 Posted 15 October 2006 I am in favour of live teachers though. Slightly more effective than dead ones in my experience.

Veil or no veil, is not really the issue, the issue is where, when and how to encompass that in society!!!

People are being manipulated by others with vested interests.

I'm no apologist for Jack Straw but he didn't declare War on anybody and to suggest he did is just an example of how some people will say anything to grab a few headlines in pursuit of their wider aims.

Jack Straw knew exactly what he was doing and I'd guess took advice from Muslim leaders before his "veil" comments. One thing he's not going to do is commit political suicide. He has huge support within the Muslim community and still has today.
Thracian Posted 15 October 2006 Posted 15 October 2006 I wonder why? And whether it's Straw they love or the Labour Party.

The other thing i've noticed about this debate is how some have suggested what would happen if it was the other way round and it was a white woman dressed like a tart with legs and cleavage showing. Some are even suggesting this is just as oppressive because white men like their women to dress this way and is no different to muslim men making their wives keep the veil on at all times. I agree their is a time and a place to dress in certain ways but as usual the media and some others are taking it too far. Why is it when a white person says something they're a racist?

It's called social manipulation. It might also be called selective government. It's done for political ends of one sort and another.

The woman works in a school 2. Anyone dressing as a tart in school has to abide by the dress expectations of a school 3. Your comment that white men oppress white women into dressing like tarts is simply stupid 4. You are confusing sociological behaviour with religious observance 5. People are called racists for acting in a racist manner not for being white
