Should we sell Stearman

Recommended Posts

Posted

What planet are you on?? We should keep him for as long as we can,

didn't you see his MOTM performance on saturday? he is one of the

best prospects we've had at this club since Matt piper and we should keep him for as long as possible.

Posted

What are you drinking mate?

£5million? If we sold him now we wouldn't get more than a couple of hundred grand for him. Jesus christ, he's not Wayne Rooney.

Posted

Calm down you lot, we wouldnt even get a million for him yet, like mad dog just said he aint no wayne rooney.

Sell him and bring some more players in.

At the end of the day the money we've spent on the academy and stuff we should be bringing talent like this through all the time.

Weird old thread this is! Stearman is a class prospect but nobody is worth £5 million after one game. I wouldn't sell him at all, especially not for a few seasons anyway. He's the future of this club and no manager in their right mind would sell a youngster after one game, just as no manager would try and sign one for silly money.

No offence but this question makes me  at the thought that anyone can be even thinking along these lines and lol at the fact they have the balls to ask the questions.

Quite comical really. ;)

I don't think any club would pay over 500k for him at the moment, simply because he's unknown. We can all see he has the talent, and it doesn't surprise me that he had such a composed game on Saturday.

All we need to do now is give Dawson a chance and we're laughing. :)

Why should this question make you angry? It’s never nice to see a good prospect go but sometimes it is the best thing for the club. No way in the world would I be happy if Stearman or Dawson went for 500k but I’m talking about serious money which could make a difference. Look at players like Jenas who went for a fair wack and as helped eased Forest's debt, alright its not helped their league position but Forset couldn't say no. The fact is LCFC desperately need money for players if we are going to get into the premiership and stay there and I was merely putting a question to people, not should we sell stearman for 500k, but if serious money was involved what would be the best thing for the club. Everyones entitled to an opinion so why should i need balls to ask a question?

It seems very mercenary to me, after all, the lad's only played about 100 minutes of first team football, and already people are counting the money.

We do need players, but why shouldn't we concentrate on developing our own, rather than relying on journeymen and money-grabbers who don't want to play for this club in particular.

Transfer fees are coming down in general, and unless Stearman turns out to be one of the best players to pull on an England shirt, I doubt we will get a lot of money for him anyway.

Also, Forest have had to sell to pay off debts, not to improve the squad. Whilst we won't be signing too many players, cheap or otherwise, in the near future, we certainly don't need to sell players in order to survive.

Im a Carlisle fan, we sold Matt Jansen for 1.5 M and that money paid for a new stand. Money is everything in football, and it is very difficult to be succesful without it - unless you have a good manager and players, neither of which leicester have. No offence but you'll never be a club which will have the luxury of being able to hang on to players. Any good players coming through will be picked up by a bigger club anyway, and thats just the way it is.

I'm angry cos the guy's only played one game for LCFC, everyone knows that the future for clubs like us is to develop our own, not in order to sell them but to play them. You say "The fact is LCFC desperately need money for players if we are going to get into the premiership and stay there" well whatever we got for him, be it 'serious' money or not we'd have to pay the equivalent amount to get the same quality player back so where's the logic? Surely if we want to 'stay there' then Stearman is just the sort of player we need. It's not my intention to insult you but I just do not see the logic, selling your best players or potential, this is the sign of a club going down (e.g forest) not one striving to get back up. As you rightly said Forest sold Jenas and others and where has it got them, on the verge of Dvision 2. Now they may have been forced to sell him just like we had to sell Savage et al but as far as I can see we are no longer in that position. We now need to hang on to our best players, Bloody hell we don't have many and build around them. if you get rid of all the dross from the team and sell your best players as well your left with nothing, zilch, zero. It will be hard enough for CL to replace the dross without the added burden of replacing the little quality we have.

On a final more narrow point we finally have ONE player in the team who might just be worth some of the entrance fee and we havn't had that for a while.

As for having the balls I just meant that it was pretty brave of you to suggest the idea of getting rid of the ONLY player that had brought some element of joy to 25,000 LCFC fans on saturday.

To be fair, not many clubs can afford that luxury.

Well, I'm glad you feel you are in a position to judge, fair enough we do have a lot of dross in the club and are paying them excessive wages. However we also have a few players with the potential to get us out of the Championship, I might add that I don't believe any player in this division that could WALK into a premier team otherwise they would already be there. How you can say we have not got a decent managers is at best pure ignorance, we are LCFC fans and even we don't know yet the quality of the manager, the juries still out but most of us have faith in him.

Agree there will always be phases in our existence when we will not be able to hang on to certain players, but equally there will be phases when we can, it's all relevant to ones position. If we are in the Championship we are well placed to hang onto championship quality players and potential premier players, provided we have the ambition to progress. Likewise if we get back to the premier I think we are well able to hang onto any competent premier quality player. Fair enough if they prove to be England class then that will make it more difficult but not impossible, after all we have had Heskey and Walker in our team as well as number of other internationals. Obviously money talks and everyone has their price but fortunately only a few clubs are prepared to pay that price.

So all in all I'd like to take my chances with our young players and hang on to them, whether the people that run the club feel the same way only time will tell.

After reading back my original question i can understand evryones distress, The question wasn't based soley on his one off performance on Saturday. If we were to be promoted this season i believe Stearman would be one of the main reasons for it. If we do and he starts playing a stormer in the premiership then teams are going to try and buy him. The chairman has already said that their will be very limited funds next season and theirs no way we would survive. We are going to need money, and if a Premiership team or Real Madrid (who always get him off me on FM2005!) make a substantial bid then IMO we may need to sacrifice him to have a chance of staying up. It is a valid point that selling our best player is counter productive but we are in desperate need of forwards who can score, and without them we will struggle in any league.

Think i would have to say sell him for £5 million, Could get a quality striker and half decent defender to replace him.

46237[/snapback]

No we couldn't, he is a half decent defender anyway, so why sell him for someone who probably won't be as good as him. He is the part of the future, i can't believe some people. A young lad finally comes through into our team for the first time in years, and all you think about is selling him so we can bring in more useless old bastards, cause thats all we ever sign so don't kid yourself, and anyway, any player worth 2 million plus aint going to sign for Leicester City nowadays, in this division.

I think you lot should all support a good team like Carlisle. Or you could support my local scottish team (Gretna). Apparently they are the best supported team in British football - population = 2500, average gate = 500. 20% not bad! Saying that though a lot of those will be carlisle fans not going to away games.

On a more relevant note... Who is this Stearman charver? If he was any good surely they would have mentioned him in non-league weekly which is the ONLY publication worth reading.

I think davieg should take a chill pill (or stronger?).

Apparently LCFC have a new dvd being released for christmas. "the glory years" is available for £19.99, not bad for 7 mins footage.

I don't need a chill pill, I'm perfectly calm, having watched this team for more years than you've probably existed I have an opinion which I'm emtitled to express. If anyone needs a pill it's you, if you put forward opinions I presume it's to elicit a response otherwise why bother or are you just here to polish your ego and earn a few brownies points. Perhaps you're just incapable of reading some logic after all it must be a bit of a culture shock compared to the Sun ;) where you probably got your ideas from or was it big brother. :P

the font you use in your signature pic is kristen ITC. That says a lot about a person. I've supported Carlisle for 27 years, and I get my information from the source which is my brain - the wealth of all knowledge. Well, that and BB. :D

Apparently leicester are giving away a set of screwdrivers to fans. This is to give them guaranteed points over the festive period.

5 million!! Your joking right! We would be very lucky to get £500,000 for him! At the minute we should keep Stearman. He looks great, sounds great and I guess he is settled in the area. Hopefully he will see some 1st team action this season.
