Well here in Australia, we hear about crazy prices for a small flat in England. But since I'm heavily considering going to the UK next year I'd like to know how much would it be for a decent flat.

To buy or to rent? And what constitutes as Decent?

Well probably somewhere around Leicester, and decent means there isn't lumps of poo everywhere and the city dump isn't nearby and stuff like that. To start off, I'll rent.

I live in London and pay £600 a month for a new apartment furnished, so in leicester, for a half decent place I would have thought about £300, but maybe the guys who live in the City can advise better - and on what areas to avoid like the plague. Also - try www.rightmove.co.uk to browse.

Highfields, Evington.

Could do with helping out here I am no expert on Leicester. Depends what you want to do there - you could live on the outskirts somewhere like Loughborough, Melton Mowbray, Oakham, Houghton, Oadby etc, which all have more pleasant area.

What are you moving here for - other than the obvious?

House on narborough road which I constitute to be one of the better areas in terms of bars, eating and proximity to city centre, usually rents for £400, one of the poohser flats usually the same!!

To buy, probably between 120-140k

What would the average U23 wage in the area be?

To be honest mate, if you are coming from Sydney and not some outer suburb of boredom, go to London. You can get the train up to see City play, and you get to live in a much more fun city!! :D

London is crap.

It's dirty, expensive, smelly, rude and over-populated.

It's the most over-rated place in the world and everyone that lives there thinks it's the singlemost important place on the map. Everyone that owns property there waits three weeks from buying it until it has gone up in value fivefold to sell it and buy out half of Herefordshire...leaving the local residents homeless and fighting between themselves for scraps from the rubbish bags.

London is crap. Fact.

Not the homeless anymore, ecofriendly middle classes now raid bins for leftovers.

Yes, but I'm guessing that as he is coming from Sydney, he won't necessarily be looking for somewhere that's great to raise the kids, he'll be looking to have some fun, preferably without getting in fights with Chavs. London is therefore a much better place to be

Don't buy the hype FCSyd,

London has the highest rates of personal crime, suicide, violence, drug related crime, armed robberies, assaults, depression, rudeness, celebrities, traffic pollution, and at least ten other things that I could make up if I wasn't in a hurry.

It is also the priciest place for a cup of tea, without milk, or sugar, or tea.

Oh yes, train heave on to Euston, do you think you've made the right decision this time?

London is for cocaine-fuelled ad-execs and mockney gangsta's. Go live anywhere, anywhere else, just don't go to London.

What's the point in coming across the world to live in Leicester? Seriously?

u could buy a 3 bedroom house in huddersfield for the prices of flats down south and majority of the midlands

Yes, but then if there were loads of highly paid jobs in Huddersfield that wouldn't be the case!
