Daggers Posted 26 October 2006 Author Posted 26 October 2006 The sale of Fireworks needs to be restricted to stop this happening and anybody selling fireworks to kids needs to be locked up with the yobs they sell them to. The sale of fags is restricted - doesn't work though does it. The sale of alcohol is restricted - guess what? It doesn't work either.
billabob Posted 26 October 2006 Posted 26 October 2006 For that... you deserve it. What have you learnt? harsh, i learnt when i got hit by a firework absolulty nothing! my uncle followed the instructions and depth and everything, it fell over, hit me and my uncle in the legs, fortunatly we were ok
cisono Posted 26 October 2006 Posted 26 October 2006 Why bother spending the money to do your own little firework display at home when a public one is usually much bigger, much better, much safer and much cheaper?
lookwhaticando Posted 26 October 2006 Posted 26 October 2006 When I lived in Oakwood, we used to go to the one held by Derby council at... I forget the name of the bloody park now... it's right near Derby university though... grrr that's going to bug me for days.. But bottom line is, it was a bloody good show each year. I didn't say no to visiting our old neighbours when we left Oakwood, though, because he used to have fireworks himself. But it was more about the booze and chocolate than seeing the guy trying to blow himself up with a rocket. I say make people responsible - rather than ban them outright. Done properly, with responsible people at the controls is essentially how it works when your local council puts a display on. If something goes wrong due to negligence, someone can take the rap for it. Why not do the same with private displays?
vanfox12 Posted 27 October 2006 Posted 27 October 2006 The sale of fags is restricted - doesn't work though does it. The sale of alcohol is restricted - guess what? It doesn't work either. True but banning everything doesn't always work either and besides fags and alcohol are easy to get hold if you know the right people. Even taxing it isn't going to work if you can get hold of it elsewhere. By all means ban fireworks but like guns its when its in the wrong hands then it becomes really dangerous. By and large the majority of the population are sensible when it becomes to most things but its the mindless minority who are ruining everyone else's pleasure in almost every part of our lives these days be it smoking, drinking or letting off fireworks.
vanfox12 Posted 27 October 2006 Posted 27 October 2006 It's not fireworks per se I have a problem with. It's the idiots who decide to have a fireworks party to celebrate the anniversary of their Aunt Bessie's successful haemorrhoidectomy that piss me off. Especially when it was the 25th June, and they can't set them off until 12.01am. Or the idiots who intentionally throw fireworks around the place. Because of the ever increasing number of idiots in society, we have to have a nanny state. Maybe there is a need for a nanny state but then the government will never go as far as banning things as that would lead to less money from taxes and put people out of work meaning more handouts from the state - not that fireworks are taxed apart from maybe VAT. Also parents need to be more responsible for their childrens actions but you do have to wonder if the real problem is the do gooders and Governments who on the one hand want parents to be responsible but then threatens them with prison when they have a small problem with their kids but does bugger all with the really scummy parents who sponge off the state and couldn't give a toss. I saw two articles in the Mirror this morning which illustrate this point. On the one hand the parents of a six year old girl are threatened with an asbo for playing football in the street (then we wonder why we have nation of couch potatoes) and a mum of ten whose husbands unemployed gets £24,000 in state benefits. No wonder the countries a mess.
Jon the Hat Posted 27 October 2006 Posted 27 October 2006 The Iraq/Afghanistan wars are killing and maiming thousands. It isn't a safe place to be. Why not do something really useful and ban that instead of pissing about with people's traditional enjoyments. If we all sit still and do sod all then we'll get ill and crippled from the inertia. Labour has always made an art form out of nannying and they're getting worse. Traditional enjoyments? You haven't always been able to buy display standard fireworks. When I was a kid (not as long ago as you Thrac) you could buy a little box of fun stuff for the garden. No problem there! Now you can get what amounts to a lethal explosive device, and to be honest the law needs changing to get up to speed. There is no need to have your own fireworks. The public displays are always 100 times better anyway. Ban the lot. Dangerous explosives should not be for sale on the high street, it's simply ridiculous.
Ultra Posted 27 October 2006 Posted 27 October 2006 Oh sod it then. Ban them, ban them all - and hang 'em high, anyone that is seen with one in public. Stick sparklers in their eyes and Catherine Wheels up their bums.
Daggers Posted 27 October 2006 Author Posted 27 October 2006 Ban the lot, along with banning dogs. I knew you'd come round to my way of thinking
Fez of Mahrez Posted 27 October 2006 Posted 27 October 2006 You will rest at nothing until you've banned everything except yourself, a bottle of wine and your Xbox 360.... Top plan.

Jon the Hat Posted 27 October 2006 Posted 27 October 2006 You will rest at nothing until you've banned everything except yourself, a bottle of wine and your Xbox 360.... Top plan. Explain why dynamite should require a license but not fireworks stuffed full of explosives? Makes no sense.

lookwhaticando Posted 29 October 2006 Posted 29 October 2006 You cheeky ****...I'm no where near that age. Right, I'm banning everyone under 21 and anyone that resides abroad. You only got me on the second count. And I mentioned you in jest because it's often the over-55's who want to ban everything. We all know you're a keen advocate of banning everything, everyone and their pets.
