Brummie-FOX Posted 12 November 2006 Posted 12 November 2006 It's basically impossible to keep every player and fan in the ground happy. Im actually the person to defend referee's whenever i can. They can't get everything right. The fans who can't see the otherside of the situation really need to grow up.

They are just trying to do their job to the best of their ability, however baffeling their decisions might seem
lildave3 Posted 12 November 2006 Posted 12 November 2006 We'll end up having no refs at all because no one will want to be one.
lcfc_jme Posted 12 November 2006 Posted 12 November 2006 Referees are the most annoying thing inside a football stadium at any given time. Linesmen are the second most annoying things in football stadia. Together, they get costly decisions wrong and wind the fans up whenever they can. Not to mention seeing things that nobody else in the ground has seen (including away fans and managerial staff) I support them fully, as this shows they are human and are doing their jobs properly

lcfc_jme Posted 12 November 2006 Posted 12 November 2006 When Andy Johnson isn't playing. Very well pointed out Muzz of the Fez kind. But you also forgot to mention (as did I first time round) that Josh Low has to be absent as well in order for my first statement to be true
dandannieldanok Posted 12 November 2006 Posted 12 November 2006 I believe the quality of refereeing has severely dipped from the standards of the 90's. Anyone watching Football Focus about 3 weeks ago would have seen Steve Claridge and a few other pundits reviewing a catalogue of incredibly poor decisions. In the end they were all pissing themselves because the decisions were so unbelieveable.
Matt Posted 12 November 2006 Posted 12 November 2006 I was thinking yesterday its only a matter of time before someone hires someone to "do one over". Ref ruin games! Yeah you need someone to keep order in the game but when the refs can't keep order of the game (Which tbh they can't) there something clearly wrong!

They are there to ensure that the rules of the game are upheld. When an official makes a mistake, they should be answerable to it. I would have more respect if just for once, one held up his (or her ) hands and said "I got it wrong" or "I didn't see it". Instead they hide behind their association and the FA, and we are told that they cannot be criticised. We are told what a tough job it is. Really? If you can't take the pressure, don't do the job! If I made as many mistakes as the average official, I'd be sacked! The standards are slipping. I'd be surprised if there are any English officials at the European Championships. Of course, it wouldn't be their fault......

It strikes me nowadays that enforcing the rules of the game has become more important than the game itself to many referees. <_<
Nationwider Posted 12 November 2006 Posted 12 November 2006 It's the fault of the players. Basically. They showed the clip of Roy Keane losing it with Andy D'Urso on TV the other day. That's the sh*t they have to put up with. Who'd be a ref? The FA and the Football League have the power to put the game back in the ref's hands, but they are too spineless. What's wrong with sh*t refs anyway? I love it when a game's decided on a bad decision... Life's never fair. Why should football be any different?

john_lcfc Posted 12 November 2006 Posted 12 November 2006 the standard of refereeing is fair in my opinion. lets be honest.. this year when has a referee influenced a leicester game and been wrong? people want to moan because thats all they do and when the odd decision is made and is wrong its super entertainment exept if your the manager of that club.... and Lisa about the euro chamionsjips.. Howard Webb must go to those he seems like one of the best referees for a long time. and he has a colina twang to him (shiny head n all)
davieG Posted 12 November 2006 Posted 12 November 2006 One of the big problems it seems to me is consistency, no not of the referee but the critics. Todays Arse V's Liverpool being a classic example. Now as I understand it over celebrating a goal by taking your shirt off or leaving the pitch and embracing the fans is a bookable offence - like it or not. Recently I've seen several players quite rightly, according to the laws laid down booked for leaving the pitch - remember Dickov being booked for this? Well today Flamini (sp) scored, ran off the pitch over the adverts and upto the crowd - the commentators then spent 5 minute expressing how wonderful and sensible the ref was ( Clattenberg - sp) in not booking him. There's inconsistency being praised by the commentators who in the next breath were complaining that the ref was consistent by not send off Carragher for a second bookable offence. No wonder refs get a hard press.

lookwhaticando Posted 12 November 2006 Posted 12 November 2006 I've seen plenty of people get booked for joining the fans - that Villa kids athletic goal late last season was a prime example. At the same time, I've seen other players join the fans and not be booked. It's annoying when the laws are so inconsistently enforced. It's bad enough when interpretation of the offside law causes inconsistency, let alone when the refs are inconsistent in every other decision.

Nationwider Posted 13 November 2006 Posted 13 November 2006 Celebrating with fans is always a bit of a grey area. Perhaps a better way to deal with it would be to book a goalscorer who doesn't return to his own half of the pitch within 30 seconds? The FA could decide at a later date whether or not a player's actions constituted incitement, bringing the game into disrepute, excessive jollity etc.

Mind you I find the shirt removing illogical, it comes across as snub to the club to me especially when they throw it on the floor. It's also a bit passe´ and deserves a booking for that alone.
