Fox in a Box Posted 23 November 2006 Share Posted 23 November 2006 Just passing the time of day at work and well Id thought id check out the much hyped new website http://www.chelseafc.com Its a new benchmark and well not bad from a design point of view very clear and too the point. I had a look at the mega rich competition http://www.manutd.com/ again very slick... So when/if mandy comes on board this is where I'd start beacuse ours is pi** poor! Websites are world wide marketing tools and well we dont spend anything on ours its awful Also I thought this was an interesting ticket concept http://www.viagogo.com/Default.aspx
lookwhaticando Posted 23 November 2006 Share Posted 23 November 2006 The website is managed by an outside company, isn't it? So we just get a regular template website, with appropriate colours selected and a few player pictures at the top. Unless we ditch PremiumTV, that'll all we'll have - a template website. I bet ours is all done centrally by the same bunch of people that do all the other clones. Depending how much it takes to get us a different design (I think Sunderland has a PTV site that isn't the pre-formed template like ours, too) I'd go for it. Because you're right. The Official Website is one of the biggest marketing campaigns you could possibly have. It's well worth making it look good because plenty of people see it. I think its very good business from there point of view huge exposure and well this is what we'll all be looking at with the new designs in the future no doubt. Makes ours look very poor indeed

Well obviously not 'actual' bungs - we leave that to Mike Newell, rectangular-faced gimp.

It's OK in bits and pieces, but when the whole website is generated by Flash, it's not so cool. [/opinion]

Daggers Posted 23 November 2006 Share Posted 23 November 2006 Because you're right. The Official Website is one of the biggest marketing campaigns you could possibly have. It's well worth making it look good because plenty of people see it. I do not accept for one minute that more people support, attend games or buy from the shop as a result of our website. The biggest marketing campaign in LCFC is the media generated from success on the pitch. Isn't it?
julian_joach Posted 23 November 2006 Share Posted 23 November 2006 Not just us with this poor website! more or less everyone in the championship has the same style. To be fair ent really bothered what it looks like, giving us MOST of the information we need anyway
Master Fox Posted 23 November 2006 Share Posted 23 November 2006 I agree Utd's looks very good indeed. Both Chelsea's & Utd's makes our website look like a rusty old burnt out caravan
lookwhaticando Posted 23 November 2006 Share Posted 23 November 2006 I do not accept for one minute that more people support, attend games or buy from the shop as a result of our website. The biggest marketing campaign in LCFC is the media generated from success on the pitch. Isn't it? Perhaps I overstated the website's importance a little. Obviously success on the field is the first key to success from a marketing perspective. But in this day and age, where do people go to learn about the team that's doing well? The internet. It's where they go to learn about the club's history, the current players and so on. It might not be so important if you live local to the club, there's plenty of other sources, but if you live far enough away from the club, the internet is your best source of information. The internet has a large part to play, so the official site is an important part of the club's marketing policy. It's thanks to the internet that I've managed to continue following City despite being 3,000 miles away (let alone our Aussie friends living almost 10,000 miles away). I actually follow city more now that I'm 3,000 miles away as opposed to little over 30 miles. Imagine that. The internet has helped me play my part too. If it wasn't for the website, I'd not have bought any city stuff in the last 5 years. You're right, it's not the most important part of the club's marketing, but it is important nonetheless. Fez of Mahrez Posted 23 November 2006 Share Posted 23 November 2006 Something has really got your gander up today, Fez. Whassamatter? I don't know. But I'd love to see some of FIAB's graphic designs.
Jonbluefox9 Posted 23 November 2006 Share Posted 23 November 2006 It doesn't matter how good the site looks if it still has the same bloke producing the stories. Missing out key information from football related articles is his speciality, it would seem.
breadandcheese Posted 23 November 2006 Share Posted 23 November 2006 Do you know what? Should Milan takeover the club, what with our p*ss poor midfield, club debts, not owning our own stadium, I hope his first priority is not the club website. Once he's made us top 3 premiership, then maybe.
