Shum Posted 5 December 2006 Posted 5 December 2006 Very true, why are Australia so damn good Structure of sporting academies, attitudes of potential stars etc no doubt.
vanfox12 Posted 5 December 2006 Posted 5 December 2006 Very true, why are Australia so damn good An Aussie won the world darts championship a couple of years ago (Not the Phil Taylor version).
Jon the Hat Posted 5 December 2006 Posted 5 December 2006 Structure of sporting academies, attitudes of potential stars etc no doubt. And a generally positive attitude to their national teams / sportsmen before and during events. They don't shoot themselves in the foot. AND they also have better facilites in just about every area. How many people in the UK have an Olympic size swimming pool nearby? Anyone?

Also helps that their a smaller nation and the climate is good out there. The trouble is we beat ourselves up over everything when it goes wrong instead of trying to beat the opposition which is exactly whats happening at the city at the moment.
RowlattsFox Posted 5 December 2006 Posted 5 December 2006 does the media have an affect on our sport? i think it does in football. i have no idea what the press are like in australia though so it could be the same there.
Finnegan Posted 5 December 2006 Posted 5 December 2006 Very true, why are Australia so damn good It's all those Celts you deported. Face it, we're just better than you. New South Wales? Answer's in the name.
Bert Posted 5 December 2006 Posted 5 December 2006 It's all those Celts you deported. Face it, we're just better than you. New South Wales? Answer's in the name. South?? The only thing your better at than us, is - shagging sheep and moaning.

lcfc_jme Posted 5 December 2006 Posted 5 December 2006 Structure of sporting academies, attitudes of potential stars etc no doubt. Exactly that. The Aussies spend around 10 times more than we do on developing world class potential from an early age, and their Sporting Institutions are the best in the world. Sadly we don't spend enough money on our young talent and pay the price for it

Sadly we don't spend enough money on our young talent and pay the price for it Trouble is you can't see this government or indeed the Tories if they get back in power investing in Sport when we have 2012 games to pay for. Also some will say the NHS, Transport, education and the environment are more important than the sporting futures of our young talent. Then again if the government is prepared to invest in fat people taking up dancing then why not invest in people who actually want to do sport and be good at it.

Then again if the government is prepared to invest in fat people taking up dancing then why not invest in people who actually want to do sport and be good at it. I see what you're saying. But the sort of schemes the government comes up with really do piss me off. I mean take the dancing thing for fat people for example. Surely the money, as you say, would be better spent improving sports facilities or building new, advanced ones for the people who want to improve/excel/stay in shape would make more sense, and then advertise these new facilities to fat people?? Alienating the sporty people isn't going to improve our countries sporting standards, neither is slimming down the fat people. Sure, we may have a slimmer nation on average, but it won't make our sports teams any better.
