Simi Posted 30 December 2006 Posted 30 December 2006 It really is time to pick a co-ordinated side and it is time to accept that if we have no scorers in midfield we will never get enough goals. Every player in the team has to be able to contribute to attacking as well as defending. We have to play a genuine marksman and we have to find a proper answer to our problem on the right wing. I am truly fed up with compromise or bodged solutions. Even today - when Kelly did some good things - playing Hughes wide right and changing Maybury to left-back was ridiculous. And it isn't the first time he's done it. I'm sure I saw Sheehan get off the team bus so there's no excuse. Sheehan is a left-back, Maybury is not. Why Kelly persists with 4-4-2 I've no idea. For the illionth time we haven't got the personnel and the system is compromised from the word go. We don't even make the width to make 4-4-2 effective because we play narrow and don't support from full-back. So we have to try something that does suit our players... Don't get me wrong - we don't have a particularly special team however you mix it. But let us give what we've got a chance. We don't have height, strength, speedy dribblers or devastating strikers. So we have to pass and move as a unit instead of operating as individual parts, some of whom pass, some of whom don't and very few of whom move. My strongest team would be: Henderson; Stearman, McAuley, Kisnorbo, Sheehan; King, Williams, Tiatto; Hammond, Dodds, Porter. Porter would take all attacking free-kicks and corners unless he designates someone else for variety. The system - having two attacking full-backs would move fluidly into 3-4-3 or 3-3-4. Every player, apart from Kisnorbo can pass and every player has shown he can score. Subsitutes would be: Logan, Nils, Hughes, Tiatto, ryatt. Although I have not seen much of King myself so maybe I would not play him in a 3 in midfield, this formaton is different and can provide alot more options for us going forward which is what we need. As you have said the formation can change into 3-4-3 and 3-3-4 and can also go into a 5 in midfield or 4-4-2 depending on the situation of the game. Also the front 3 is not proven at our level so I think leaving Hume out is strange, I personally would play Hume. 3 upfront is adventurous for Kelly and therefore I really doubt he would play the 3 upfront that you have selected Also 1 Tiatto is enough for me !
Thracian Posted 30 December 2006 Posted 30 December 2006 I would actually hand back my season ticket if that was the team named. They would get destroyed. Personally, I don't rate Tiatto that highly, but you're happy for him to both appear on the bench and in the first eleven. Thanks for that and sorry. I was going to put Wesolowski is midfield but decided he wasn't fit and that Tiatto's aggression and ability to hit left-footed free kicks probably outweighed the advantages of using Hughes or an unfit Weso. Tiatto can also cover at left-back or provide left-sided width which the others can't.
Leicester's 12th Man Posted 30 December 2006 Posted 30 December 2006 Rk would love that! Five Defenders... mmmm .... I think it would possibly work as both Maybury and Stearman can get forward. Then when both go forward you have Wesolowski to cover in DM. I don't think it is that negatively minded and could be seen as one of the only ways to play all 3 centre backs who will always pose a threat from set pieces.
Hullfox Posted 30 December 2006 Posted 30 December 2006 Logan/Henderson; Stearman, McAuley, Kisnorbo, Sheehan; King, Williams, Wesolowski Hammond, Hume, Porter. subs: Logan/Henderson, Maybury, Hughes, Gradel, Dodds. Douglas Maybury Kenton McCarthy Nils Sylla Hughes Tiatto Low De Vries O'Grady
Thracian Posted 31 December 2006 Posted 31 December 2006 Douglas Maybury Kenton McCarthy Nils Sylla Hughes Tiatto Low De Vries O'Grady That team doesn't altogether surprise me but I did think you'd spend more time drafting a few words in defence of today's effort - if only to lift our spirits for Monday.

Louise Posted 31 December 2006 Posted 31 December 2006 Statistically speaking (going on individual performances this season, rather than parterships etc.) our best team for getting a result is: Logan Kenton McCarthy McAuley Johansson Low Williams Wesolowski Porter Hammond Odhiambo Subs: Henderson, Stearman, Sylla, Fryatt, Hughes And our best team for going for the win is: Henderson Stearman McAuley Kisnorbo Johansson Low Williams Tiatto Porter Hume Hammond Subs: Logan, McCarthy, Hughes, O'Grady, Wesolowski
Thracian Posted 31 December 2006 Posted 31 December 2006 Unlike you Thrach, I don't defend the indefendable. I'll call that progress.
Asha Posted 31 December 2006 Posted 31 December 2006 I would say Goalkeeper - Logan Defenders - LB Maybury, CB Kisnorbo, CB McAuley, RB Stearman Midfielders - LM Porter, CM Hughes, CM Williams and then RM Sylla Strikers - Hume with either Hammond, Fryatt or O'Grady (who never gets a chance) not really fussed

Fez of Mahrez Posted 31 December 2006 Posted 31 December 2006 Logan Stearman, Kisnorbo, McAuley, Johansson Wesolowski, Porter, Williams, Tiatto Hume, Fryatt
Thracian Posted 31 December 2006 Posted 31 December 2006 Hume not even in the squad Thracian???? Nothing against Hume. He needs a short break. I wouldn't want to lose Hammond's pace - we won't have any at all otherwise - and I've never really seen Hume as a natural centre-forward anyway despite his considerable efforts for us this season. I was, however, tempted to play Porter left midfield - and go with Hammond, Dodds, Hume/Fryatt up front. What I'm trying to get over is that we've far more players suited to 4-3-3 than 4-4-2 and we need to get potential goalscorers and attacking passers into midfield and full-back to supply what is a limited forward line and one which needs supplementing. My teams, either with Hume in as above, or with Hume out as originally listed have goalscorers/creators/acurate passers throughout the side. That's because we have to increase our strikes-on-goal ratio and Dodds/King will help increase our aerial capability, especially at set pieces when the big lads come up, because right now we have none. The system uses no wingers as such - and I love wingers as you know - because we simply don't have any. Porter can play on the wing but is a natural midfielder. He can hurt people with precision passes rather than by flying by people. The more opportunity/options he has to thread those passes the better.
Harpenden Fox Posted 31 December 2006 Posted 31 December 2006 I'm all for free speech, but I see that Low has been mentioned in a couple of these messages. Have the new year's eve celebration started a little early in certain households?

Hullfox Posted 31 December 2006 Posted 31 December 2006 Hume not even in the squad Thracian???? No, only so much room for those aged 12+
Harpenden Fox Posted 31 December 2006 Posted 31 December 2006 Can't argue with the stats. True, but my theory is that when Low is on the team sheet the other 10 know they have to outperform to compensate, and thus we play well. Very cunning, meester Kelly
Thracian Posted 31 December 2006 Posted 31 December 2006 No, only so much room for those aged 12+ If you'll explain to me how our distinguished olders timers who you seem to like so much have had any great effect in taking us forward, making us an attractive team, scoring some goals, contributing to some exhilerating football or even clinging on to Geroge Graham type 1-0's then I'm all ears. There's Douglas, Kenton, Johnson, Maybury, Nils, Hughes, Tiatto, Sylla, Low that you can start with. How many goals and assists between the whole lot of em this season - or last for that matter where it's appropriate.

This Season Assists: 11 Goals: 4 Last Season Assist: 7 Goals: 7 (from Football League)
Louise Posted 31 December 2006 Posted 31 December 2006 Not sure I'd class Nils as an old timer either really.
Hullfox Posted 31 December 2006 Posted 31 December 2006 Hughes is not an old-timer. He's over 12 though.
Ultra Posted 31 December 2006 Posted 31 December 2006 Logan Kenton McCarthy Kisnorbo Johansson Wesolowski Hughes Porter Cadamarteri Fryatt Hammond Subs: Henderson, McAuley, Stearman, Dodds, Hume

Fez of Mahrez Posted 31 December 2006 Posted 31 December 2006 He's chairman of the Chosen Men and no mistake. Come on Thrac! You were starting to warm to him and had him in your preferred team a couple of weeks ago!
