MON Posted 6 January 2005 Posted 6 January 2005 A 3 and a half year contract for a 29 year old. Does anyone think this is too long. Also he is unproven at this level therefore we must be able to have some sort of get out clause. Like Newcastle and Kluivert. I thought CL said he did not want many players at the club above the age of 30.
filbertway Posted 7 January 2005 Posted 7 January 2005 32 isnt that old really, and if he's better than scowcroft i wont be complaining.
dan_84 Posted 7 January 2005 Posted 7 January 2005 i wouldnt of thought he's on a great deal of money either to be honest. i think a big chunk of his money will come from goals and appearences.
Anish Posted 7 January 2005 Posted 7 January 2005 I agree with MON - I reckon he should have been given a 2 year contract at most. He has to prove himself at LCFC and in the Championship, which he hasn't done - and if he turns out to be a flop we'll have to keep him for 3 1/2 years. A bit like Trev Benjamin really, how he got 4 years here is ridiculous.
Anish Posted 17 April 2005 Posted 17 April 2005 I have to agree with my point. 93810[/snapback] And mine <_<

Not another 3 years with him.
davieG Posted 17 April 2005 Posted 17 April 2005 Get some perspective people. Most people were complaining about the merry go round of short term contracts. When you put players on longer contracts you increase the risk of failure but reduce the turnover Benjamin was probably on 3 to 4 times what DeFries is on and he was NEVER world class not even Western Park class. No manager has 100% buying record He may turn out to be better than he currently is. You don't know what else CL has planned for strikers People's memories are short and selective on here - Blake, Dublin, Benjamin, Connolly, Scowcroft have all failed to perform up front for us and been loudly criticised and publically flogged, verbally speaking by us all and yet are suddenly better than DeFries

I would highlight the last paragraph. It echoes what Gary Mills was saying yesterday and points to where the problem lies. All the strikers have failed. Does this mean the strikers are failures or does it mean, as GM, suggested yesterday, it is a failure of the midfield to deliver the right ball to the right person at the right time.

Yesterday was a collective failure from the team and the manager I see no benefit in isolating one player and castigating him, it's almost as if you all think it's his turn having had a go at most of the team already. 3 of yesterday's team are CL's additions, 2 Maybury and McCarthy were playing out of position, I don't know the reasons why, probably because Stearman and Stewart were unfit and Kenton wasn't expected to be able to go for 90 minutes. Ok MDV was poor, although I actually thought he was better yesterday than previous performances. the midfield are still not playing off him when he does control the ball. We're all disappointed about the performance, but let's not forget that the team we were playing has been put together & been playing together for 3 years, sure they were more determined but that comes easier when you are confident. So lets calm down get behind the team on Tuesday get the 3 points and see what CL can do.
