He's not bald Posted 5 January 2007 Posted 5 January 2007 I have heard from several sets of supporters that Layer Road gives Colchester a distinct advantage because of it's size and the proximity of the crowd to the pitch. It's one of the few grounds I have never visited before. Anyone been and do you think it's true?

Anyone been and do you think it's true? I went last season with a mate who had a big bet on and needed just Colchester to win a few grand and they won (thankfully for him). The stadium is absolute crap, I think capacity is about 6 or 7k but the stands are appalling! Its like being teleported to 1979!!! I must admit the atmosphere was OK, all things considered and they are on one hell of a run. Still, we`ll win easy!!
Thracian Posted 5 January 2007 Posted 5 January 2007 Sounds almost like another Hereford. We managed to win there but Colchester will be a harder test. They're obviously a capable side and much to easy to underestimate for my liking.
Eastern Fox Posted 5 January 2007 Posted 5 January 2007 Each stand is as bad as the old away end at Filbo. They're in a play-off position at the moment, imagine if they were promoted to the Premiership with that stadium! It makes Fratton Park look like Wembley. That said, the atmosphere's probably better than the Walkers, stands being close to the pitch like Filbert Street.

Small stadiums are the best for atmosphere.
Leicfox Posted 5 January 2007 Posted 5 January 2007 I bet they lose a few footballs over them small stands.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 5 January 2007 Posted 5 January 2007 That'll teach them to let their groundsman mark out the penalty area after the club Christmas party.
ashwj Posted 5 January 2007 Posted 5 January 2007 It's rubbish. The terracing is awful, if your not at least 6ft tall don't expect to see an awful lot!
Wils Posted 5 January 2007 Posted 5 January 2007 Ive been loads of times to Layer rd and it is quite intimidating for away teams but nothing to be scared of for us

Joe. Posted 5 January 2007 Posted 5 January 2007 Darn. <_< I'll just have to get there first, or push me way through. Don't worry. Does anybody want to volunteer to have lildave on their shoulders during the match? We'll have to fight to the front instead.... This is going to be quality. Atmosphere and everything should be great
