syston_fox Posted 9 January 2007 Posted 9 January 2007 Apparentley theres been a chemical explosion just outside branstons garage at the queniborough / syston divide. Last I heard there was 25 fire engines, 1 specialist team and a 100m evacuation zone around it.
Leicester Lass Posted 9 January 2007 Posted 9 January 2007 It's all kicking off around Syston isn't it?! Any idea what happened?
lookwhaticando Posted 9 January 2007 Posted 9 January 2007 It's all kicking off around Syston isn't it?! Any idea what happened? BBC News | Leicestershire The fire service said crews were dealing with nitric acid but there was no danger to the public or risk of the chemical getting into water courses. A 100-metre exclusion zone has been set up around the area of the site in Melton Road, Queniborough. The 'incident' is under control, they add.
syston_fox Posted 9 January 2007 Author Posted 9 January 2007 Wonder what caused that then. From the way the bus driver was going on it sounded like the whole road had been blown up!
Flynny Posted 9 January 2007 Posted 9 January 2007 If it were a bit lighter I'd get down there on me bike. Which building was it near Syston train station that burnt down in the summer?
lookwhaticando Posted 9 January 2007 Posted 9 January 2007 Wonder what caused that then. From the way the bus driver was going on it sounded like the whole road had been blown up! You'd have felt the explosion if that were the case.
Leicester Lass Posted 9 January 2007 Posted 9 January 2007 Might have a walk down in a bit. Actually, scrap that, I can't be arsed.
syston_fox Posted 9 January 2007 Author Posted 9 January 2007 You'd have felt the explosion if that were the case. Except for the fact ive been in the city centre all day
lookwhaticando Posted 9 January 2007 Posted 9 January 2007 Except for the fact ive been in the city centre all day If it had blown up a whole road, you'd have probably felt it if you were in Nottingham town centre all day.
Webbo Posted 9 January 2007 Posted 9 January 2007 i was in quenibourgh all day and i never heard anything, the road was blocked on the way home though.
Simi Posted 9 January 2007 Posted 9 January 2007 That explains why all the fire engines and ambulances drove by me on the way home .
drew Posted 10 January 2007 Posted 10 January 2007 It was the OmniChem plant. They're one of our customers, our salesman rang them earlier. Apparently two chemicals were mixed that were not supposed to be mixed, one of them being Nitric Acid, there was a big flash and the rest is history.
drew Posted 10 January 2007 Posted 10 January 2007 I've just realised that BBC link is exactly what i have said......
syston_fox Posted 10 January 2007 Author Posted 10 January 2007 This quote made me laugh: One man who lived nearby reported seeing "interesting-coloured smoke" lasting about 10 minutes at the site. Is that seriously the best quote they could find about the incident from the people around at the time?
Master Fox Posted 10 January 2007 Posted 10 January 2007 This quote made me laugh: Is that seriously the best quote they could find about the incident from the people around at the time? Probably somone making smoke singnals
Manwell Pablo Posted 10 January 2007 Posted 10 January 2007 Hearsay. I blame Hearsay. You know something we don't?
