"Should play have stopped before the second? The linesman had a good view of the incident," he said referring to the injury to his player David Bell. "Most officials are not capable of refereeing or running the line anyway." He added: "When a ball is put out and a player gets up it annoys me. We're going soft because of the foreigners." He added: "As soon they are touched, they go to ground. "I will never have a player feigning injury, ever. I don't want those players in my side. "You have this kicking the ball out and then someone gets straight up. They should be embarrassed." Luton were leading 2-1 until the last two minutes of the game before a Kevin Phillips double gave Albion a dramatic win. Next week: Newell blast at gay referee! "We need to kick out these filthy homos!"

Newell must have hacks hassling him for opinions on every subject and probably taking it out of context, he's the whipping boy scapegoat of the moment isnt he.... that said..... he should say nowt!
Jay Posted 13 January 2007 Posted 13 January 2007 you know what though it might be because their is some truth in what he says!!! he's very outspoken and his mouth probably thinks quicker than his brain but it's true!! anyone see Eboue from Arsenal last week went down about 6 times and suddenly when he was asked to leave the pitch he got up (although he did get subbed in the end) and I remember last season when we played Plymouth they had a defender who fell to the ground about 12 times whenever we got near the box we had to kick the ball out about 4 times!! I think the only way is to adopt the Premier League rule that only the ref can stop the game as the gentlemens agreement to kick the ball out for an injured player which has been in operation for years no longer works which is a sad event imo and to be honest a lot of foreign players are the main culprits

What a sad day if a bloke can't express his opinion just because he's not a calculating orator or because he can't be bothered to sanitize his words so they suit the words and thoughts police. All that should matter about Mike Newell is how his football team does. He's not a roll model for anything outside football - or indeed inside to any great degres. What he thinks about gays or blacks or hanging or smoking dope doesn't matter any more than what you think. If you disagree with his comments fire away. But how many other views would you subdue? I have to listen to hypocrites telling me how to educate my kids. Why not do something useful and get them to shut up. Being politicians - and presumably "educated" people, you might at least expect some sincereity and some sense out of them. With Newell I can't imagine why anyone would give a shit what he says. Anyway his comments are mainly throw-away rather than considered. And all they reflect is a reaction - his feelings at the time. So what? Or do you perhaps think he's an idiot because he hasn't been socially brainwashed enough to think, or more importantly speak, within whatever parameters you'd allow?.

Seriously, I have been asked to be more open whenever I delete a post or close a thread by one member - so I am. If every time I do it I get accused of deleting other stuff I shall simply stop bothering and wasting my time.

I wont bother getting too involved in the arguement on diving but some English players are masters at it and have been doing it for years. I`m glad Newell turned us down when he did as he is too emotional for football management. I think he is a decent manager tactically and has brought on so many players that Luton have sold on (another £5m raised this window) but he is a loose cannon who should learn to shut his mouth and take decisions like a man.
