Get your arse down the auctions you can regularly pick up a £4000 car for £3000.

www.freeads.net is a good site and also the free ads paper.

www.autotrader.co.uk

www.parkers.com - shows the spec and reviews of cars.

I would say a corsa...very good cars, but I would say that as I am biased

Fiesta/Corsa/Clio/206... all really much of a muchness. Pick which you like best depending on looks/feel (make sure you test drive a few).. then buy the most expensive you can afford, making sure mileage isn't awfully high and that the car is in good nick.

Can't go wrong with a 15 year old volvo estate check this one out

you'll rape the roads

Sadly I havn't got either the budget nor class for one of these works of art so I'm after a 206

This particular model is as reliable as they get with a stereo and ABS only £650 nd all, spend the other £2,400 on a haircut

My first car was a Corsa I bought it from a Vauxhall Dealer it cost 2,500 - 3,000, butI got it down from 5,000 so not bad...That was a W reg, and the cheapest insurance I found on that was 1,500 (Originally 1,700 but did pass plus and got a 200 quid refund)

I got rid of my Corsa just after 1 year, Nothing really went wrong with it apart from I had to have a new clutch (but that was due to the way I thrash the fuk out of it....and I knew the clutch was gonna die so payed 150quid for an extened warrenty I think...The clutch cost 250/300 I think :P) I got 1,500 in a part exchange, The reason I got rid of it was the fact I was bored of it.

I now have my VW Polo (04) and I know I need to keep this for longer than I kept my Corsa because of the amount I spent on it. I think i'll have a Golf next. Although i'm told VW's are one of not many cars that seem to hold there value more than other cars just because of the fact there so well built.

my first car was a Vauxhall Nova, then I upgraded to a Vauxhall Cavalier 2.0 SRI.

Driving became a much more pleasant experience then! :)

Need a new car soon and not sure which one to get. I do need a big boot... and don't like smaller cars with small, unresponsive engines...

Another car well within your budget is a 20 year old range rover dubbed the typical footballers car. This beast is described by the seller as an ideal tow vehicle so perfect to take the family on caravanning holidays

Just add tinted windows and sunglasses and you'll really look like a footballer! :P

Most important thing is mileage-the lower you can get for your money the better. Fiat's not remarkably reliable long term, Corsa's can be thrashed to 8uggery and withstand it if that's your thing (not mine but seen it done and the car lived to tell the tale), Clios are cars you want to keep nice and drive well.

 millions of Italians drive Fiats and continue buying Fiats.

However, I have to admit that we do tend to change our cars more often than the average Brit... :P
