ferry jambo Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 Re the girlfriend If you remember back sam put the serial killer away back in the 70's so I think we are to assume that would mean the whole girlfriend being kidnapped would fix itself as the serial killer couldnt exist in the 90's after sam fixed it
Milky Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 I've only ever watched one episode of this show, and it was the very last one! saved myself some trouble i reckon. anyone looking forward to the spin-off? It's a women this time, back in early 80's London, and gene is still in it.
Louise Posted 11 April 2007 Author Posted 11 April 2007 Re the girlfriendIf you remember back sam put the serial killer away back in the 70's so I think we are to assume that would mean the whole girlfriend being kidnapped would fix itself as the serial killer couldnt exist in the 90's after sam fixed it Only if you assume he was back in time while in the coma rather than the whole of his 1973 being just a dream. Tentatively looking forward to the spinoff. SPOILERS >> Hinted to in the final episode if you remember, Sam records his coma dreams for 'an officer studying the experiences of trauma on policemen' (or something like that), that officer is suppose to be the one who ends up back in time with Gene (and Chris and Ray) in 80s London.

lookwhaticando Posted 19 April 2007 Posted 19 April 2007 jUST WASTED IT watched it ON FREEVIEW. wAS gENES JOB SAVED IN THE END? Gene wasn't eradicated. He lived, despite his best efforts to get killed in the raid... since the idea was for Gene to be killed, the 'operation' surely failed. He be saved. I've only just finished watching series 2, not even 10 minutes ago. The finale was absolutely wild. One was to assume that it was over as soon as he woke up, but apparently not. So many twists and turns. Both series definitely warrant investment in the DVDs when they become available on this side of the pond. They're keepers.
stez Posted 19 April 2007 Posted 19 April 2007 by Colleen Last and Lorna Cooper -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Why Spin-Offs Should Be Banned TV spin-offs are never a good idea. They grow out of the ashes of a beloved series, trample all over its remains and tarnish our memories. Top quality shows like Life On Mars and The Sopranos deserve to rest in peace, rather than have their legacies limp on in sub-standard spin-offs that inevitably fail to live up to the originals. The finale of Life On Mars was perfect. Loose ends were tied up, mysteries were solved and the ending was both thrilling and satisfying. Job done. Or is it? The show’s makers obviously subscribe to the dictum that when you’re onto a good thing, you stick to it. DI Sam Tyler’s body may still be warm, but the spin-off, Ashes To Ashes, is already scheduled to debut on BBC1 early next year. John Simm has made it clear he doesn’t want to appear in any episodes of the spin-off and has applauded the decision to end Life On Mars after just two seasons. “The show would lose its edge if it carried on forever like Lost,†the actor said. “That would be unfair on the people who love it... It’s a rare thing these days for a show to know it should bow out at the top.†Does that mean viewers should expect Ashes To Ashes to be Life On Mars without the edge that made the original series such compulsive viewing? Even Matthew Graham, co-creator and chief-writer of Life On Mars, admits to reservations about the spin-off. “There were huge qualms. I was really unsure about the whole idea,†he said. “I thought we were milking the cash cow – until I started writing... but still lurking at the back of my mind was that feeling, ‘Is this right? Shouldn’t we just be leaving it now?’†The female lead is still to be cast but interest around Ashes To Ashes is already enormous, as Life On Mars fans look forward to seeing DCI Gene Hunt shunted into the 1980s with a female sidekick who has travelled back in time. But can such a hyped programme ever live up to expectations? Or are we doomed to disappointment? I fear the latter is a more likely scenario i'm quite looking forward to ashes to ashes, although i'm not sure about another 'back in time' person being there to be honest
Manwell Pablo Posted 19 April 2007 Posted 19 April 2007 i'm quite looking forward to ashes to ashes, although i'm not sure about another 'back in time' person being there to be honest It's a daft thing to do if you ask me, but I'll still watch it.

I agree with Manwell... another time traveller type in the series or any spin-offs is just too close to home. Again agreeing with Manwell, I'll still watch it should it ever see the light this side of the pond. There's a US version being piloted... can't imagine it'll be any good, though. They ruined The Office (now on something like 47 episodes, and counting) and Coupling (didn't last a couple of weeks) within the last 4 years, I can't imagine they'll have much luck with our dramas either. They'll also surely make the mistake predicted by the 'MSN Doom Merchants' - if it's a ratings hit (big if) they'll probably extend it another four series with 22 episodes each (a la The Office).
stez Posted 28 July 2007 Posted 28 July 2007 look! you can save double at the DFS sale. oh yeah, ashes to ashes look good too (as much as one can tell from a photo) but gene look snazzy. i'd have put a link up to the mirrors site, but they didn't bother putting the picture up.
Cobbo Posted 12 February 2009 Posted 12 February 2009 Bump. I have just watched Life on Mars on DVD again (lot of time on my hands the past few weeks) and I had forgotten how good it was (well I hadn't, but it just re emphasised it). Best tv show I have seen in my life time and if you're pondering a box set to buy yourselves etc - buy series 1 & 2 of this. You will love it.
