leeleic Posted 19 February 2007 Posted 19 February 2007 I know i'm puttin my neck on the line here, but.............. i would actually like to see kelly given more of a chance. If we were to make an exceptional push up the table come the end of the season, why not keep him on? He's never had anything to play with before now and this is a great oppertunity for him. He's obviously not up to much on the tactical front, but with the little resources he's had, he's bought in 3 decent players IMO. Yeates has proven he's still got alot to learn but posseses enough quality to beat most full backs on his day, he will only get better. The horse has been immense since his arrival, ok, the town game, a bit dire but who wasn't? His touch has been quality and his hold up play opens up so much for us in the final 3rd, somethin we haven't had! and jarrett, the lad is a box to box player and solid in a challenge, a bit of bite in the middle, rough em up a bit. If kelly is given the resources, he will be able to bring in players of similar, and in most cases, better quality. I dunno, i would just like to see him given more of an oppertunity over the summer, he's been through exactly the same as us, the wondering, the fustration. If he rewards the us with a respectable league position this year, i can't see why we don't reward him with the oppertunity to lead us into next season.

RK has held the fort pretty well in the circumstances, a lot will say that some of his signings have been suspect but when you have no money to spend and few prospects to offer players then I reckon its a case of having to make do with what you can get. He knows that some of these signings wern't up to scratch, and subsequently got rid!!. His tactics have been brought into question on many occasions, but he has readily addmitted that he is still learning..... and lets face it, it is a pretty tough enviroment to learn your trade in. I think he deserves his chance, now that the situation has altered. My only reservation would be whether he will be able to stand up to MM. I think the vast majority of supporters welcome Milan, but the danger is that he might try to run the team and Rob would need to very strong to be able to say "No Milan..... I think we should do it this way" whether he would be able to do that, only time will tell.
FNQ Posted 19 February 2007 Posted 19 February 2007 I absolutely agree. He's done a great job given the circumstances.
Manwell Pablo Posted 19 February 2007 Posted 19 February 2007 I absolutely agree. He's done a great job given the circumstances. Average maybe, hardly great.
FNQ Posted 19 February 2007 Posted 19 February 2007 Average maybe, hardly great. Those circumstances being 0 funds, 0 managerial experience and over inflated expectations. It's a miracle he's still here!
bold_fox Posted 19 February 2007 Posted 19 February 2007 I agree that he's done alright with the resources he's had, but don't think he's the right man for the job.... If we are looking to push to the Prem, then we need an experienced manager... RK won't be able to attract the sort of players we need to the club... Imagine if we had a manager with a wealth and history of contacts, then we'd be able to attract a lot better players. Look at Roy Keane at Sunderland. He's been in the game for a number of years and built up a massive list of contacts. This has been a massive help fir Sunderland when trying to attract quality players...... SHEARER IN !!!!!

Milan knows a lot of players in Europe who could 'do a job for LCFC'. And that's a direct quote.
Manwell Pablo Posted 19 February 2007 Posted 19 February 2007 Those circumstances being 0 funds, 0 managerial experience and over inflated expectations. It's a miracle he's still here! Most people expected us to finish around 14th which is not unreasnobale when you conisder the players we have here. A top half finish and he's doing a good job, at the moment he's on par.

But it should be the manager woh attract the players to the club... ( with the backing of the Chairman )..... We don't want to go down the route of the MM signing players, then RK having to play them regardless of what he thinks..... That sort of situation puts the managers integrity into question and will only lead to failure and problems behind the scenes.....
Bloomer Posted 19 February 2007 Posted 19 February 2007 Those circumstances being 0 funds, 0 managerial experience and over inflated expectations. It's a miracle he's still here! Well we now have some funds and he has another season's experience, but he will still be expected to deliver a miracle, thats goes with the job. As long as we look safe he is safe. Come the end of the season, then I think MM wears a velvet glove over his iron fist and he may just want someone with real experience and profile to lead his crusade. I also think he is telling Rob who he needs/can have right now.
The People's Hero Posted 19 February 2007 Posted 19 February 2007 RK to go. I always get the feeling it's 'management by numbers' with him. His tactics are questionable, his substitutions often too late and hard to understand. But most of all, his outlook is ridiculously negative. 16 points from 16 games?? We need someone to take us forwards. With RK at the helm, we'll tread water at best and any victories are DESPITE and not BECAUSE OF RK. RK OUT.

I'd consider offering RK a coaching role, but no influence on the team... We need a big name to come into the club.... Do people not think its about time Alan Shearer started his managerial career ? ? ? ?

Lets look at the big picture folks!!!

That sort of situation puts the managers integrity into question and will only lead to failure and problems behind the scenes..... Well i think that's the situation now, whoever the manager is. Probably not ideal, I agree. But it means the manager is essentially 'head coach'. And noone seems to have a problem with Kellys' coaching credentials.

But it means the manager is essentially 'head coach'. And noone seems to have a problem with Kellys' coaching credentials. I do, I think he's been a poor coach, his handling of players is tatt and I haven't really seen any improvement from individual players, especially the youngsters!!!

All the players seem to have gone backwards in the time they have spent here. He was alright with the kids at Blackburn - he can look after the kids here. Otherwise, no. A three nil win against a rudderless, awful Coventry side and how the fickle turn!

Maybe the idea MM has is to use RK as the 'Head Coach'... Then arrange all the player buying, funding, scouting, contracts etc. himself... Hopefully it'll work

I hope you're not calling me fickle. I've backed Kelly to the hilt, from the begining. Even under Levein.

Stuliasz Posted 19 February 2007 Posted 19 February 2007 In my opinion we may as well stick with RK for now. For me there aren't too many managers around who are available and would be guaranteed to be an improvement on RK. Bringing anyone else in is more of a risk in my opinion.
Zingari Posted 19 February 2007 Posted 19 February 2007 can't see the benefit in swapping managers at this stage remember the euphoria when we secured the great ; pleat mclintock levein

I'm far from entirely happy with Rob but crucially I don't really see any REALISTIC alternatives at the minute. This situation could be very different in the summer however. With Mandaric now at the helm there is more chance we could attract a better calibre manager attracted by the prospect of a medium-long term goal of Premiership football. EDIT: although an inherent risk in all this is Mandaric's sometimes eccentric choice of manager while at Pompey.

Manwell Pablo Posted 19 February 2007 Posted 19 February 2007 I really do not get understand all this trashing of MM choices of manager. Picking a manager isn't easy and the people he appointed have been succesfull (some still are) throughout Europe, it just didn't work at Portsmouth for them.
