City Terminate Keown Contract

Leicester City have today (Thursday) terminated Martin Keown's contract by mutual consent.

The 38-year-old former Arsenal and England defender, who signed on a one-year deal in the summer, is now free to look for other clubs after leaving the Walkers Stadium.

He made 18 appearances in a City shirt but City boss Craig Levein has allowed the veteran centre-half to leave as he begins his rebuilding plans at the club.

Levein said: "It's now been three months since I arrived here at Leicester and during that time I've been making up my mind about which way we are heading.

"We do feel that the younger players are the way forward for the club.

"Martin has been great to work with, he has done a fantastic job for us but he is not the future and he understands that himself.

"And what we've done, is rather than wait until the summer, we've accelerated things a little and hopefully we will be able to use the money that we will gain from Martin leaving, to bring in some other players.

"That's the intention but where Martin goes now is entirely up to him."

Meanwhile Levein also revealed that Kevin Pressman could soon follow Keown out of the Walkers Stadium following the arrival of 26-year-old keeper Lars Hirschfeld.

"We have brought in Lars as back-up to Ian Walker and the intention with Kevin Pressman is to do a similar sort of deal as we've done with Martin Keown."

and play who upfront then? DeVries is still weeks away from any kind of starting fitness, and that would leave Connolly  Let him see his contract out

Mickey Adams' "Dad's Army" approach to management didn't quite work last season and was about to go even more t*ts-up this year. CL is making all the rights noises about bringing in a new load of younger players. Fair play to MK and KP, they did ok for us, but let's move on.

What we need to do now is give CL the next 16 months to get HIS team together and cut him some slack while he does it.

Good post.

I'm happy that we've got some wages freed up, but I imagine a large proportion of that has gone on Maybury and De Vries...
