AJ and Yeates Gone

Recommended Posts

Leicester City midfielder Andy Johnson could have played his last game for the club.

Johnson, who joined the Foxes from West Bromwich Albion on a free transfer last summer, has failed to feature in the 16 since the arrival of Nigel Worthington as caretaker boss.

And Worthington confirmed on Wednesday that the club were currently in negotiations with the player to terminate his contract.

He said: "The Football Club and Andy Johnson's representatives are currently in talks to come to a mutual agreement concerning his departure from the football club."

Johnson has made 21 starts for the Foxes to date, and scored his only goal for the club in the 3-0 victory over Coventry City in February.

Meanwhile, Worthington also revealed that on-loan winger Mark Yeates had returned to Tottenham Hotspur.

Yeates arrived at the Walkers Stadium at the end of January, but despite scoring just six minutes into his debut against Luton Town the youngster failed to cement a place in the starting line-up.

Worthington added: "Mark was surplus to requirements and has therefore returned to Spurs."

I couldn't believe he said that, what a fanny. Makes you wonder how out of all the reserve players in the prem Kelly went for Yeates, I reckon Kelly found nothing but a bit of mud and some woodlouse under all those stones he over-turned...what a nob

I think it was more a combination of most clubs having no desire to send fringe players off to a club were they would see their fitness and form slide under an incompetant managment while those players whose clubs let them talk with K*lly had no desire to work under a manager as out of his depth as K*lly...

Rumours of Yeates thinking he was billy big bollocks and Worthington dressing him down so to speak in the first few training sessions. Big bust up and off yer gan, Mark.

Why do we always manage to pick those players when we go hunting in North London? :ermm:

A spell at Millwall might set him straight! :D :D :D

"Surplus to requirements" is about as damning as it gets.

And again, as with AJ, Low, Glombard and others you just have to wonder what on earth possessed any supposedly professional person to sign them for a club with our ambitions in the first place.

Who does the pre-signing ground work?

In these days of videos, fans forums, fast transport and endless reference what possible excuse is there for signing anyone who is totally unsuited to the club's requirements?

You might laugh at mention of the fans forums but taken alongside all the other things mentioned a simple log-in and the posted question "what do you think of so-and-so?" will elicit lots of opinion from committed football followers who will have seen him week in and week out.

From that will come a valuable impression - as also from the level and consistency of his match ratings. Put with the other available information there is litle excuse for signing a duffer.
