Jon the Hat Posted 13 May 2007 Posted 13 May 2007 I don't suppose by any strange quirk of fate any of you lovely boys and girls happens to be an immigration consultant or lawyer? I could do with some advice.
Daggers Posted 13 May 2007 Posted 13 May 2007 They found out you snuck in via the Chunnel then? I tells you, they catch up with everyone eventually. It's the strict Labour government what does it you know...
Fez of Mahrez Posted 13 May 2007 Posted 13 May 2007 They only come over here to vote for their own countries to win Eurovision.

It's the strict Labour government what does it you know... That'll be a no then, Damn I had you down as a man with the argumentative skills of a lawyer No, the wife is about to get kicked out. Great hey, seems we have too many nurses, and being married to an englishman is not good enough if you are foolish enough to miss an application deadline. 3 weeks over a visa it appears is the same as coming in through the tunnel in the back of a lorry. You have to love this country of ours. In the meantime I am going to be 2 grand out of pocket and on my own for a few weeks. Oh and the wife might well lose her job. I have had a bloody brilliant weekend.

On a more serious note - Have you applied for "Leave to Remain" pending a decision on an application for residency?

Sadly not the IND have kept her passport which makes it difficult to do anything. I think I need a lawyer,
Guest Posted 13 May 2007 Posted 13 May 2007 Sadly not the IND have kept her passport which makes it difficult to do anything. I think I need a lawyer, I have not done immigration law so I know nothing about it, so my only advice would be to speak to a lawyer.

Jon the Hat Posted 13 May 2007 Author Posted 13 May 2007 As well as the lawyer, your local MP might help. Or the Press. Yes, fortunately my local MP knows rather a lot about immigration so I have sent him an email, will call and speak to his office tomorrow. I'm inclined to think getting the press involved might not help right now, but I will certainly hold it in reserve.

AoWW Posted 21 May 2007 Posted 21 May 2007 I don't suppose by any strange quirk of fate any of you lovely boys and girls happens to be an immigration consultant or lawyer?I could do with some advice. Just wondered how things are going? Here's hoping you got a lawyer and have got it all sorted by now. If you do decide to go the press route feel free to PM me... not sure how much help I can be but I spent several years working in PR/media relations so may be able to offer some advice. Was the MP any help?
Finnegan Posted 21 May 2007 Posted 21 May 2007 Damn, these mail order brides are more trouble than they're worth, eh?

Was the MP any help? After much consideration my Wife is flying to Oz tomorrow to apply for a spouse visa there. We got her passport back on Saturday having shown the tickets to the local enforcement office. Our MP wrote letters to the home secretary and the IND, but unfortunately as my wife now can't work we can't afford to wait 4 weeks for a reply. It would be a gamble, and to be honest we don't have any compassionate grounds to appeal - eg new baby or having to go to Iraq to apply or anything. The system certainly doesn't give any leeway for error, which is a bit harsh. We will chalk this down to experience, assuming she gets the visa in Canberra. If not then I will be talking to the media and my Solicitor.

I was "stranded" in a five star hotel in Aruba (on full ex's) for seventeen days once, waiting for a working visa for Venezuela. It was hell.
