Under-Eights Go Free!

Leicester City today announced that children under the age of eight will be entitled to free season-tickets at the Walkers Stadium next season.

This announcement forms part of the Foxes' on-going initiative to help attract more families and children to the Walkers Stadium.

City already have an area within the ground set aside for families - the bmibaby stand - and have more than 9,000 Junior Fox members enrolled, one of the largest kids' clubs in the country.

The club's Schools Programme is also continuing to gather momentum.

The Foxes currently have 145 schools - 110 primary and 35 secondary - registered on the scheme with over 53,000 children in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland enjoying the benefits.

Chief executive Tim Davies said: "We are proud to be one of the first clubs in the country to introduce free season-tickets for all children under eight.

"These children are our supporters of tomorrow and we hope this will encourage parents to sample the great family atmosphere of the Walkers Stadium.

"In the past couple of years with the introduction of our free Junior Foxes membership scheme, we are creating a climate where it is as affordable and enjoyable as possible for all families to follow the Foxes.

"This scheme is an extension of a variety of family-orientated schemes and promotions we have developed and we are confident that it will prove extremely popular."

The scheme is limited to two free under-eight season-tickets per full-paying adult who purchases a season-ticket at the same time.

The offer is part of a new, more flexible package which allows the club's 16,500 season-ticket holders to renew as early as March this year.

Further announcements will be made in the near future about further pricing policies for next season.

Going to be a cracking atmosphere next season.

Kids singing and screaming really does my head in at games. FNF was the worst thing ever for it. Should do a free season ticket for prisoners to counter this outrage.

I understand your feelings, but I can also understand why the Club is doing this. One of the posse I used to go to games with told me once that City were tenth in the list of Clubs supported in Leicestershire schools.:unsure::( The Club has to build up its fan base locally, but you are right, the thought of a few thousand screaming under eight year olds does not fill me with joy.

We all have to start somewhere, whether we're 6, 16, or 66 when we go to our first games, does it really matter?

Yes, it is annoying to have some little brat nearby, and the associated whinging parent who tuts every time you swear, but if the club shows some common sense, the free tickets should be confined to the Family Stand, thus taking a lot of the kids out of areas like the Kop or L1.

I must admit, I do enjoy taking my niece to the games, It loves the atmosphere, and actually wants to join in with the 'proper' chanting, but being the good child It is, It doesn't because those songs have swear words in. It will be in the Family Stand tomorrow, and I pity the poor child.

yeah i would have no problems with it aslong as there in the family end. would hate the kop to be full of kids. The kop should be how it used to be at filbert street. Adult prices only. No kids in there

They aren't all going to be sitting together you know...there won't be a kids pen or anything...its just a way of getting more parents to come, who would otherwise come down to the matches, but can't afford tickets for every member of the family.

It also develops us a nice little fan base for the future.

Chill. Just because kids don't swear and curse like yourselves, doesn't mean they can't support Leicester.

I think this is actually a fantastic idea- how else do we get supporters; would we prefer gloring hunting little s&%^$ like Man U when we are back in the Premier doing well (OK this may be a few years) or should we build up the fan base?

Yes the atmosphere at the Walkers is crap right now- so I think a plan of having in certain places of the ground is a good one- the Family stand is a good place, as seems to be A1 (not sure if thats classed as West Stand on Family)- a lot of kids seem to sit there I think.

The problem is everyone's become much more spread out at the Walkers- I know some fans in the family stand where we sometimes sit who try and get chants going but it just doesnt happen as no-one wants to keep them going so aren't all these fans better off where we can get some noise going- or is it just cause they like sitting near the away fans and winding them up  . I guess its their personal preference though...

Can't believe this is being criticised. What a great initative that will ensure the Club's fanbase will grow and grow. We have all moaned about the empty seats this season and rightly so, but at least the Club are trying to be forward thinking.

BTW, the reference to FNF that was Mr. Mace's idea I wonder who came up with this one?????

To be fair I am highly critical of Mace and his team but every now and then they pull one out of the hat, and this is one such occasion.

Well as long as I don't get any parents telling me to stop swearing infront of their child I don't mind.

If the club believe they aren't going to fill those seats any other way then I think it's an excellent idea although I do agree that it should be restricted to the family enclosure. The short and long term spin offs are invaluable.

More adults are likely to attend with those under eights

More kit etc will be sold, lets see these kids running around in LCFC not Man U, Arse or Chelski gear

More food will be sold, although they will have to improve the service.

This will develop the fans for the future - the biggest age gap at the moment is in the 25 to 30 age range partly due to the legacy of a cramped Filbert Street during our most successful period.

Good idea long term; but the club have obviously come to the conclusion that we will be in this division next season and are unlikely to fill the ground. :o

Posted

The family side of the ground has been almost empty all season. It makes good business sense on both the long and short term.

They will have egg on our face if by some mircale we do a Palace though.

We can't fill the ground any other way so lets get the kids in and supporting.

Just had a thought.

What's to stop me from getting a free season ticket for young hullfoxcub but never bringing him (he's 5 and has no interest) but guaranteeing a free seat next to me week in week out?

What a great idea. These are the fans of tommorow and ths will incourage parents to take children.

Can't see why you are moaning. It is only for the Family stand and wont effect most of us. It could see all the young uns move back to the family stand. And we will also profit from their parents money and food/drink/programmes etc.

Only wish they would of done this 10 years ago or so, would of encouraged my dad to bring me down a little more.

It's for the whole ground. It doesn't just say the family stand.

They may have to extend the ground to accomodate the potential numbers. ;)

Cracking idea. I would have gone so much more when I was younger if I could have got in for free :( Pah!

That is excellent news about being in the Family stand - this means that all the under 8's in the kop will be leaving to move to the other end of the ground
