Ric Flair Posted 7 February 2005 Posted 7 February 2005 Good old Stearman is on standby for the England Under 21's this week. Let's hope either they get some injuries or England call a few of the under 21 defenders up to cover for their injuries. Levein take note, Stearman is our best defender.

Craig Posted 7 February 2005 Posted 7 February 2005 njured trio out of England U21sPortsmouth's Gary O'Neil O'Neil picked up his injury in Portsmouth's defeat to Tottenham England Under-21s have lost captain Gary O'Neil, Darren Bent and Michael Dawson through injury ahead of Tuesday's friendly against Holland. Portsmouth midfielder O'Neil was unable to join up with the squad because of a groin injury. Ipswich striker Bent has a calf injury while defender Dawson, who joined Tottenham on transfer deadline day, has pulled out with a shin problem. Bristol City's Leroy Lita, who has 20 goals this season, has been called up. Lita joins three other new faces in the squad. Derby's Tom Huddlestone won his first call-up for the match at his home ground of Pride Park. The midfielder, who has signed a pre-contract to join Tottenham, is joined by Spurs' Dean Marney and Manchester United's Kieran Richardson - the other new faces. Birmingham's Darren Carter will hope to make his debut after being a non-playing member of the last squad.

emmalcfc Posted 7 February 2005 Posted 7 February 2005 Well he's playing tonight for our reserves, so I hope he doesn't get injured.
Jonbluefox9 Posted 7 February 2005 Posted 7 February 2005 In the programme Peter houston says that he's been impressing but they're trying to build him up a bit as anyone who's seen him before will know, he looks like a twig. He may well be our best defender as many of you keep saying but I agree with Houston that if you put him up against Les Ferdinand, Les would run all over him. Maybe we'll have to be patient and not rush him. Nurture his talent.

He's not all about being a brute and roughing strikers up. He's more composed than that and reads the game well, often won't let a striker have a sniff. If he can put some weight on then brilliant, but I don't think we should hold him back when Matt Heath isn't any bigger in physique and he gets in for Leicester.

If Stearman doesn't make it i'll be disgusted, either I don't know my football very well or someone will have ****ed up big time because Stearman never fails to amaze me.

roger54 Posted 8 February 2005 Posted 8 February 2005 Not sure he is ready for the first team just yet. Not strong enough. Had a poor game for the reserves last night - Only Chris O'Grady stood out. Can see why we need another Goalkeeper - Logan was poor

Just because he had one bad game doesn't mean Stearman isn't ready. Personally I think he deserves to be on the bench instead of Makin, i'm not saying start the lad every game but he needs first team football to aid his progression. The fact that Makin, Dabizas, Dublin and Heath are all shit and make a huge number of mistakes regularly I think he deserves his chance.

On another forum he was described as a mixture of Tiatto and Muzzy.

Wesolowski has always been hyped up, where as Dawson has quietly gone about his business. Both impress me immensly and I think both of them wouldn't disgrace themselves in our midfield. Would do just as good a job as Joey does, which isn't hard.
